Hey if Steven can use the HVX for pickup shots when he filmed Munich, I think the HVX is a damn good camera haha.

This is typical of all of these on line still comparisons... they tell you nothing empirical ! This is no way to compare images from video.

Yes, i kno. the images are different. But as i said, i was looking at grabs from both the HVX and the HD100. To me, there is more recorded detail on the HD100. Also, i have looked heavily into Adam Wilt's 4 cam test. I come out with the same opinion. I dont blame it tho, were comparing 720x960 to 720x1280, pixelshift to no pixelshift, HDV vs. DVCPROHD; there really is not too much comparison. But when i hear people start comparing recorded detail, i gotta chime in.

So many months of never ending back and forth on what cameras can do what and noise issues and lens issue and resolution and so on have made me crazy. I cancelled my order on an HVX (partially financial) and then decided that I would just shoot my next feature on film once again and practice with my DVX......then I watched the latest Harry Potter and saw so much noise on the DVD transfer that I figure it might bo OK, just to shoot on a one chip disposeable camera, so what's everybody arguing about. :)

Cool. :)

Yeah, if I went JVC I would purchase the M2 and a set of Nikons with it, so that's great news from you.

One of the reasons the JVC gets great marks with the Redrock M2 is that you can keep the zoom at around 20mm on the JVC fujinon lens, which avoids the CA in the longer end of the barrel.

We also have seen some great M2 stuff coming out of the HVX as well.

Yeah. Exactly. In the end, its what Jarred and Barry and John have been saying: "get the right tool for the job"- its your workflow that matters, buy the camera that best suits you.

For me its the DVCPROHD. Albiet the P2 workflow is quite rich for my blood, especially with this P2 store and all. In the end tho, i think ive made the right choice.

Even after all the debate, I'm still excited to get my hands on an HVX for a longer period, with a DP to test it with.

It's nice to get a heads up about how to work around the limitations on these various cameras, mostly 1/3rd" ones IMO.

If anything, that's what I hope comes out of these kinds of discussions - a way to broaden the creative potential for all these cameras and the filmakers who use them.

I'll take a serious look at the M2 for whichever I buy. Thanks for the input Brian. The footage i've seen has been impressive.

Here's to maximizing creative potential

Ah-Hah! So . . . if finally surfaces after all this time --- after all these discusions,

there ain't no denying it . . . the infamous "cat hair" mosaic noise!!!

(see lower left corner of HVX grab on previous page).

To prove your point you'll need to separate the RGBY channels and post all 4 channels screenshots. Then look at the recorded detail per channel and judge the difference. I think you'll find some interesting things when you separate the channels  . Give it a try.

LMAO! haha, thats a towel.... not my cat. jeeze.

Also, the HD100 Grabs i believe were shot in B&W. Im not too sure as i got them from the HD100 forum on here (not mine).

I'm still going for the HVX. I know what I saw. 4:2:0 is worse THAN 4:2:2. you can see that. Now less detail... I don't think that's so important. Please take a comparison shot of PEOPLE. This is the best way to see tones and detail. There's no other thing our brain knows better than fellow humans. That's why it is the most dificult thing to do in computers- realistic humans!

Some CC to enjoy (correction made on evr'y rgb channel at once, added a lot of saturation and contrast), hope you like it:

I did a bit more CC... screw the JVC's extra lines of resolution, look at the detail 4:2:2 brings out!
