Jonathan,
I read your post about recording component out of your HD100 and had a couple of questions.
If my math is right, capturing 720 60p uncompressed from the
component out of the camera means you need about 198 gigs storage per
hour. (1280x720x60 = 55.5mbps x 60 = 3.3 gigs per minute x 60 =
198 gigs per hour.) This may be an embarrassingly basic question,
but does this mean you need 55.5 mbps throughput on your raid storage
to capture this as well? (I assume yes but am not completely sure.)
Have your tried capturing 60p or 30p or 24p uncompressed from the
component out on the JVC HDV deck for editing, and would this then
mean that you would need a sustained throughput of approximately 27
mbps to capture 720 30p from the component out of the deck? Since
fast SATA raids are relatively cheap (and 4 SATA drives give you
close to 200 mbps throughput) , I was wondering if capturing
uncompressed 720 30p out from the deck might be a reasonable way to
edit HDV recordings in an I frame format without getting any further image degradation to the original. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Drew Harty
