Why does it look like my color temperature is changing?

I just shot some footage this evening - under flourescent lights in my home - and the color temperature seems to slowly shift from cool to warm. I'm shooting 24p (advanced). This is the first time I've seen this happen. Is it just the lights I'm shooting under? (I doubt it, I shot under them earlier today and they were fine.) What could be causing this?

Okay, I checked all my auto settings (ATW, AF, etc.) and they're all set to off. It turns out it's only happening when the shutter is at 1/250th. Any idea why that would be?

Turn off your auto white balance. Sounds like its tracking. See p. 80 of Barry Green's "The DVX Book."

damnit gary read your manual....don't you have barry's book too??

shame on you

I just got Barry's book. I'm looking for something about it right now.

Edit: And I didn't find anything about it. The only thing I could find that seems close is ATW but I've got my WB set to manual. ATW is off. So what gives and why is it only happening when my shutter is 1/250?

I've got a small (1.6MB) sample clip that shows what I'm talking about. Where can I host it?

Edit: Nevermind, I'll use youtube. Video coming up in a minute or two.

its doing that on its own?? crazy...definately looks like something with the WB to me...

i wonder if it has to do with the flourescent lights in your kitchen??

Yeah, isn't that strange? I figured it might be the lights in my kitchen too... But to only be doing it when the shutter is 1/250th makes it all the weirder.

Anyone have any advice on what to do next? (Could it be a problem with my camera I wonder?)

maybe the 1/250 syncs up with the strobe of the flouros??

someone with more experience must know this...

Hey Gary-

I had exactly the same issue with the dvx for my sci-fest entry. Higher shutter speeds under fluo. lights cause the color to cycle from from a warm to cool tone...Every few seconds the actor's faces would go from orange to blue, or something like that.

So there's definitely nothing wrong with the camera. I assumed that what OregonDank said was the most plausible explanation: certain shutter speeds start to sync up with the fluo. strobing. Kind of like the way a camera will record the strobing bar on a computer monitor unless it's at the proper shutter speed.

No, it still doesn't make sense, IMO. Because, even if the shutter coincided with the flourescents (50 Hz?), with auto-white balance off, it shouldn't be tracking (changing color at all). That's bizarre. Doubt something is wrong with the camera. Just must be another setting we're forgetting about (besides white balance).
