New Full Trailer for first Feature

Good stuff, I liked the quirky-ness elements. The acting seemed pretty solid all around.

For a trailer, I think it could do with running for less time, and being more visual and less dialogue driven. It seems you have lots of out-of-school action but seem to only show in-school action.

Bad stuff, I thought more than a few shots looked soft, and out of focus. But other than that, it seemed technically fine with me.

G-luck with the project, and thanks for sharing.

I agree on the trailer length. We've already shortened it but are waiting for our composer to finish the full film before replacing the "borrowed" score from Cabin Fever to match the shorter trailer.

The out-of-school action is actually a pretty small section and we didn't want to emphasis it. That way the audience wouldn't be expecting most of the film to take place outside.

Just personal preference but I try to make trailers that sell the movie I made and not cop out like some hollywood film trailers. Example: The Silver City trailer makes the film out to be a political comedy. Actual movie is a boring political murder mystery with jokey dialogue.

The point of a trailer is to sell your movie.

I personally would feel I wouldn't want to see this movie based on how it all seemed in one location (which IMO can drive the viewer nuts with claustrophobia).

But then again, if you tricked me into thinking it was set outside a school lots, then I would see it.

That right there is what I do not want to do with the trailers to any film I make. I don't want to trick anyone into believing the film is something its not.
Imagine I did change the current trailer to include a lot more outdoor shots. You become interested in the film and decide to see it. You sit and wait for almost an hour for the outdoor scenes to show up and they only last about 15 minutes from there. You, or someone else who thought a lot of the film takes place outdoors due to the trailer, are more likely to dislike the film based on the idea that the film was marketed incorrectly and not on the merits of the film itself.

What we are talking about isn't really an extreme cause of course (and might not even bug people that much) but I know the feeling of being duped into a movie by a trailer which sold me an entirely different story. It's a frustration I'd rather not inflict upon the movie going public and possible fans in the future.

Hopefully this doesn't seem like I'm jumping down your throat, EJ, because you raise a valid reason why you wouldn't necessarially see my film. I guess its a personal pet peeve.

I think your work ethic is solid and sound, and I respect you for your outlook.

My opinion is that showbusiness is just that, a business, and to market your film, or anyones film, you need to sell it in the best way you can. 90 mins in one location doesn't sound the best foot forward to me.

But I think we agree to disagree :)

that was a fantastic trailer. i especially liked the long version. it was a piece in and of itself. i just have watched it a second time and enjoyed it so much more than the first. didn't really know what to think of it the first time i guess. there is a very original style here that i find to be very effective. i would love to see the entire thing. please keep us up to date when it's all finished.

how in the world did "The Breakfast Club" become a hit? it was all in the high school and nearly all inside the library. there are plenty of other movies that the majority of the picture takes place in one area. hey rembrandt you've got a little too much blue you need some other colors...

Hey fellow DVX enthusiasts,
Been away from the site for way too long (college graduation, new job, etc.) and thought I'd drop off a brand new steaming... a fresh trailer for my companies first feature, Summer School.

Full Trailer right here

Incase my absence was to long here's the original teaser as well

Teaser trailer

And a short behind the scenes featurette (not shot on DVX).

School Violence

The feature is the first time I actually used the DVX100A for anything and I have to say its one of the best cameras around. I currently use it all the time at my post-house job.

Hello, i am very intrested to find out what kinda lights you used. What sound equipment. Sounds very crisp. Also what kinda editing program did you use? The trailer was totally awesome! look very good to me.

Lighting was generally natural light and about 6 650w Arris borrowed from my college. We did use a few other little light rigs but that was generally it. For example the "blue" hallway shot in both the teaser and trailer was all naturally lit.

The sound was generally recorded on a boomed sennheiser (not sure exactly what model as it was) otherwise for very tight or large motion shots it was mounted right onto the camera.

Editted completely on Final Cut Pro. Trailer and teaser CCed in it as well. After the Da Vinci 2K CC it will probably be finished on Fire for the final cut.

And thanks!

lol, today i came onto the computer to show some friend's you're trailer. these are some of the commets:

Outstanding,

Great sound,

Great Picture,

Looks like a intresting plot,

I WANNA WATCH THE MOVIE!

As regards EJ's remarks, I didn't really notice the location, I was more interested in what I was watching.
And like novelt said "there are plenty of other movies that the majority of the picture takes place in one area."
this is so true. :)
Personally I was 'captured' :)

Thanks guys.

I wish you would change your companie's lead-in logo. Too MS Paint-ish. Great trailer though.

I agree. That is just a place holder. I plan to replace it with a completely animated logo that will look more like this:
newrcflogo.jpg

That image is just vector art but the final will be a cel-shaded 3D model.

Great trailer, great work. It didn't seem too long to me. not the first time around. Also, I liked the pacing of the clips. kept me edging forward.

Good work.

good luck on the animation too. cel shading can be tricky.

DVD release is the goal but when is up in the air till we get distribution.

Rapier, cel shading isn't as hard as it used to be. Atleast not with Maya7. It's a built in shader. Also I work with these guys at Gasket. So I have on-site tech support if I'm screwing up.

One of the guys in your film looks exaclty like a dude that was in a Canadian television series called 'Degrassi High'. It really is uncanny...
