How can you say that...
Quite easily.
In fact, I didn't see the audience rolling in the aisles either. Someone earlier in the thread nailed what I have always felt was true...To host the Oscars successfully, one needs to be a "song-and-dance man" of the old school of comedy. That's why the Academy should write Billy Crystal a blank check to come back year after year.

I also think Ray Romano could possibly fill those comedic shoes well.

A few others I think could be a fit:
-Mel Brooks
-Bill Cosby
-Robert Klein
-Bob Newhart

Disregarding my above call for a throwback comedian, I would love to see the funniest man alive, Robin Williams center stage come Oscar night. It'll never happen though IMO, due to the 4+ hour runtime that would inevitably come out of his unpredictable brand of humor.

Robin Williams would be a producer's nightmare. It would be the funniest 11 hour show you ever saw.

Ray Romano is the worst comedian ever...worse than Carrot Top
In my best John McEnroe voice: "You can't be serious! Carrot Top!! That's over the line, no one's worse that Carrot Top" ... well, maybe Whoopie Goldberg, but...

LOL - No **** - He would run long no doubt

Jon S rocked IMO but I'm a big fan so wrong guy to ask

John stewart played it safe and I don't blame him. The Oscars crowd is notoriously stuck up and self-important. I think Billy Crystal was the last host they warmed up to. I like that Chris Rock came out (and went down) swinging. And I enjoyed "Uma, Oprah..." from Letterman. You just can't win at the Oscars. I'd be up for giving John another chance. Or maybe we can try Ellen. Hasn't she hosted the Emmys?

As for Ravin negating rap as music. Not even sure how to respond to that. All I can say is maybe check out Dave Chappelle's Block Party. Looks to me like there are musicians playing music in that film.

I think you can say that rap isn't singing, but it goes a bit too far to say that the genre as a whole isn't music.

rap i can accept as poetry. i'm not saying the rappers arent talented i'm just saying its not music.

I won't check out Dave Chapelle's Block Party because as i said in that thread i dont think Chapelle is funny and I don't really like him.

its fine that you don't agree with my opinion but you dont have keep getting on my back about it. i'm done with this arguement.

Redirect... I think Crash was a poor selection for best picture, and I would echo the post about the year American Beauty won. A great film, but not Best Picture worthy. Oscars this year was kind of a hodge podge. Maybe it's just me, but I do not like films with messages hitting me over the head with them, and I felt very talked down to by the story, even though it was a noble one. A great idea that was poorly executed I think. Too obvious, elementary.

I think Brokeback, controversial subject matter aside, should have won. Major balls (no pun intended) to put that kind of movie out there right now. I think both Brokeback and Crash attempted to say that we are all very similar, but Brokeback said it better, and in a more subtle way. Plus cinematography was top notch although a little self-conscious, score was awesome, script ruled. And I think that WoW should have taken visual effects, it was one of the few standouts about that picture (the ending sucked hardcore.) Batman also had great cinematography, but I am also heavily biased.

Rap is music- poetry, set to a beat (African musical tradition) or a melody (Irish musical tradition) is music as far as I'm concerned. And while the artists may not have represented hip hop very well, they at least were excited to have won. But I think there was a better musical choice than that for Song of the Year.

I can't believe Don Knots wasn't in that montage, considering they included Shelley Winters. And I can't believe they didn't show a clip of her work on Cleopatra Jones! Killer cheese flick! (see my avatar.) Ok, of course I get why.

I think Jon Stewart rocks, he's hilariuos, and the whole political ad thing was a f*in riot! The choice of host, plus the song of the year kind of give the impression that despite the "Return to Glamour" as stated theme, they are trying to infuse the Academy with some new life. So there will be some growing pains, not everyone will like it, blah blah blah. R. Williams- now THERES a host I'd pay to see!

If Rap isn't music then please tell us what it is exactly.

something where instuments are played to accompany vocal harmonies. rap just has a person talk with no horns, bassists, guitar players, drummers, etc. ... its all electronic.

Rap sucks. I hate it.

Yeah yeah I hear a song from time to time I dig (Something to shake the booty too or workout or dance with the ole lady) but, I don't know....

Most of these cats can't even play a instrument or carry a note. Most of these cats are produced by someone, packaged and sold.

Maybe I'm being hard on it. I dig the Black Eyed Peas (Fergie is smokin) and they make me run faster when working out; but maybe it;s Gangsta Rap I can;t stand.

I don't know

You're talking to someone who can actually play guitar so; this whole RAP thing is like blah blah blah. And the ghetto to the riches story get's older with every new album

Rap about something interesting at least.

See! Now that's an opinion I can respect! And for 90% of rap I would agree. I'm not even gonna argue the other point about rap and music anymore. It's too hard to defend a rap song about a pimp's life being hard...

i listen to Will Smith's albums (there are a lot of people that think he isnt a rapper thats not what this is about) and i enjoy it. i just dont think its music though. i'm tired of arguing though. i wish people would get off my back about my opinion

I'm officially off your back, Ravin.

You and I are both Spielberg fans. Let's both just complain about Munich not winning anything. Deal? :)
