How to play raw HVX200 footage? Need to make a decision on cams

I amable to play the WM HD clips but not the raw MXF files no matter what codec I seem to install.

Can someone explain how to play the actual raw MXF files?

I'm sure this has been expained here before but I could not locate it.

I'm trying very hard to decide between the HVX200, the Xl-H1, and the JVC.... but it's hard to get real footage.

It's obvious so far that the Canon XL-H1 wins as far as real resolution goes.... but it's weakness seems to be latitude.. it blows out very easily as the others before it did. The XL2 actually seems to have more latitude than the H1.

The HVX looks to have much better lattitude but I can't find too many maximum resolution clips and there is definitely weird noise all over. I guess you could let it go for a sort of film grain but sometimes it is obviously noticeable.

I have mostly been conecntrating onthese two cams so I haven't seen the JVC footage yet.

Has anyone taken full res HVX200 footage out to film yet? That is the obvious goal of this camera right?

To play the HVX files, you need the P2 viewer or a non-linear editing program that handles the native files.

To get the P2 viewer, you actually have to have the camera because you have to enter a serial number.

I am not a video expert, but I think the noise problem of the HVX is really blown out of proportion.

between those 2 i would still go with HVX200... JVC is still MPEG2 codec -- no matter how cool and professional JVC camera looks it's still cramy compression. Moreover the lens the cam comes with is pretty bad -- i'm all for "destroying" the footage to get grungy results but that lens is **** even for me -- a dude who just wants to shoot and doesn't really care that much about the tech part.

The Canon lacks sex appeal and mojo babe.. Don't see any dudes pulling the chicks with that dud... They want slow mo, time lapse, and seemless IT workflow. Digitizing is for dorks man.

I'll be getting my fat camera baby tomorow ... OOOOOOHHHHHHH

I was all for the Canon XL H1. But HVX200 won my heart ;) It all depend of what you need. SDI-HD, TC, shoulder rest...

What catched me into the HVX200 compare to XL H1 :
DVCPRO HD, DVCPRO 50. Not Mpeg 2 compression
P2 - PCMCIA Memory card, no tape
Real Progressive scan
480i/p 720p 1080p... All the formats available (only missing 1080i 60p)
Beable to delete clip that wont be needed on camera.
On camera copy of P2 card to a Firewire HD.
Uncompress audio
Slow-mo was a bonus I didnt use yet

As a home, IT Geek, hvx200 is alot more interesting than the Canon XL h1.

I filmed at -20celcius this weekend on P2 and it was great... I would have been very scarred to do it with a Tape...
