FBI warning hmmmm

Hey, where do you get the FBI warning you see in the high end DVD prints? Here is what I found and it seems like you cannot use that nice FBI emblem with the copyright warning unless they authorize it. What do you think?

Here is what I found from their website:

"The Anti-Piracy Warning Seal

The graphic you see on this page--the FBI's Anti-Piracy Warning Seal--was specifically created to deter illegal practice and to increase public awareness of the penalties associated with piracy.

Why? Because piracy of media and other commercial goods causes huge losses to the U.S. economy each year…and it's American consumers who are paying the price.

Where will the seal (and all statements that say "FBI Anti-Piracy Warning") appear? On a lot of different kinds of goods…subject to the terms of licensing agreements. But right now, we're just getting started.

As of August 2006, the FBI has authorized use of the FBI Anti-Piracy seal and warning by members of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), subject to each member entering into a formal Uniform Authorization Agreement. Association members should contact the MPAA, RIAA, SIIA, BSA, or ESA for more information.

Now we are evaluating the licensing arrangements we have with members of these associations with a view towards permitting the broadest possible public use of the seal by all individuals and businesses with a copyright interest. Please check this webpage periodically for updates on the status of this initiative.

In the meantime, it is perfectly fine for anyone, without FBI approval, to use the following generic language on material protected under U.S. copyright law: "Warning: The unauthorized reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal. Criminal copyright infringement, including infringement without monetary gain, is investigated by the FBI and is punishable by up to 5 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000."

A last word to the wise: Unauthorized use of the FBI seal, name, and initials are subject to prosecution under Federal Criminal law, including Sections 701, 709, and 712 of Title 18 of the United States Code.:Drogar-Shock(DBG):

By the way, I did not know where to put this so I thought I would put it in the one I use (being the FCP post). I hope this does not offend.

Okay ... to make it work in this forum ... Does FCP have this warning anywhere in any archive of images or files?

I'd suggest creating a photoshop splash screen with the generic language and staying away from the unauthorized use of government agency logo.

People will copy regardless and do. They're not going to stop because you put the FBI logo on your splash screen.

Yep, they will copy and for me when I am trying to do a sell of 100 DVDs to a school, there is always a parent who spreads the word out that they can copy it for free or just a small donation. I do all of the work and they disperse it freely.

I have been debating on the anti duplicating software companies but it is hard to pay on a batch purchase of uses and also using a dongle key. I already have one of those on my photo printing computer. Every time I click off a photo it costs me 25¢ or so. I have learned to be careful with that program to not make mistakes in volume runs.

Any good anti-piracy software out there that is not too expensive? I may go about $1.00 per DVD but like the dongle key stuff I already use, if it does not work then you lost the money. Also, how do you get your DVD duplicator to run copies? I do not have the time to make them one at a time in my computer. That would take forever.

I think that if you have a large enough job, it would be better to go to a replication company. They already have the licenses in place, and will copy protect your stuff. They might even put the FBI warning in it for free. Check into it. They could do it faster and cheaper than you can.

Here ya go:

The copy protection stuff is barely even a speed bump on the road to making copies. IMO it's not worth the cost as anyone who wants to make a copy will, and anyone who wasn't willing to pay you the first time isn't likely to pay you anyway. You can't really look at too many of those people as potential customers.
Have you considered just selling the full run to the school and letting them sell them to the parents? Parents might be less likely to make copies if they're circumventing a fundraiser vs "some guy profiting off their kids". If you take yourself out of the direct sale part you'd only have one customer to deal with and you could spend your time somewhere more profitable?

This thread is from 2009....those kids are probably in college now! And what exactly are DVD's anyway?
