Just out of curiosity, can I offload the mxf files from the HPX170 to a hard drive like this? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...in_Triple.html

A Hard Drive like this powers itself through the firewire port when connected to a computer. Does the HPX/HVX camera have enough power to make that kind of transfer or do you need something that has to be plugged in via 12v adapter?

How about putting something like this in the p2 card slot and streaming?

You CAN offload to a external Hard Drive!! You just have to have a self powered Hard Drive since the P2 cameras cant supply power trough the Firewire port or USB.

If you use a battery powered HD like the Nexto, its easy and fast! We off load a 16G card in about 15minutes including verifying the data! If you skip verifying its like 10minutes to off load a 16G card!

Fellow Dvxuser turned me on these HD and we love them! Cheap, rugged and light!

On that little screen, is there any way to verify that the footage transferred successfully? because you can't use the verify function on the hvx/hpx if you use usb 2.

Please don't choose a portable hard drive just because it comes with a battery. That tremendously limits your options.

1. Choose your portable USB2.0/FireWire hard drive (I've used the La Cie Rugged drive for a few years).

2. Choose a battery (I've had no problems with APC Mobile Power Pack model #UPB10).

3. Connect the two items together using a velcro strap, leather satchel, Pelican case or similar.

Offload your P2 cards in the field!

(PM me if you need note on setting up the P2 camera for offloading)

Happy shooting,
Andrew

Just buy the Nexto.... It is a very nice small professionally made unit that has a rechargeable battery inside. It even has slots for CF cards, has Firewire and USB. The whole unit is the size of a USB hard drive and weighs about the same.

Not sure about USB. But, I know when you use the Firewire to connect the HVX to the Nexto there is a "verify" function on the HVX.

I think there is also a "verify" setting on the Nexto, but I have never used it. Usually I just let the HVX handle everything trough the Firewire port.

Feel free to message me if you have more qestions.
