Impressions?

Now as if I understand this... It doesn't do the 'ez' (extended optical zoom) but it does do a 2x 'digital' zoom. I'm assuming it's doing some sort of onboard upscaling which is essentially what you could do in post with a little more control.

Correct?

Honestly, it looks a little, if not a lot, cleaner than you would get by doing it in post.

Seems to me that zooming in post would se much more image degradation from an image that was already captured and compressed versus capturing the crop right in camera.

Well, it's not just in 720 mode, either. It's in 1080 mode. I mean the Crop, you can do it in 1080.

So, yeah it's grabbing the image-- or seems like it is-- from the sensor at 2x. Which shouldbe better than taking a 1080 and scaling it in post.

This is very encouraging for 16mm cine wides! (of which I have many... :)

I wonder what the wildlife shooters are making of this camera? I'd rather see some footage of a face off with a tiger at 50 feet than a resolution chart any day :)
I downloaded the 2 clip comparisons and didn't find the increase in softness/noise that offensive, in fact I thought it had a nice organic look, not very scientific, but that's what I perceived anyway.

So what's the verdict? Does anyone think it will be possible to use C-Mount 16mm lenses with this 2x crop option? Or is the quality just not worth it?

I TOTALLy agree. Only tests will tell if C-mount glass is going to be a good idea but I am already using the 2x zoom whenever I need the reach and I don't have an issue with it.

In fact, I just used it with the 180/2.8 Zeiss Prime on some pitbulls at the beach. Definitely need a tripod but it was awesome.
