Would You Consider Coming to Atlanta?

With the Following that has developed here in The Southeast. I would love to have the opportunity to be able to share in having a Bootcamp for both the HVX_200 and the DVX_100.

Meaning what?

I believe Palone5 would like something (i.e. the bootcamps) closer to us southern boys and girls. So far they have been east, west, north and worldwide but nothing in the southern part of the country.

The South definitely needs some attention. Barry's HVX book is great... but a bootcamp would be even better. The tourist destinations of Savannah or Charleston would be good... Atlanta, Jacksonville or Tamp/St. Pete would work as well.

The 4EVER Group, a wedding and event videography association I teach for, had a big three day deal here in New Orleans. It was to provide training seminars to southern videographers and help promote and support New Orleans' film and video industry (Hollywood film is HUGE here in New Orleans, even after Katrina).

I work with the New Orleans Video Access Center, and we're starting a NOVAC Digital Filmmaker Academy program. NOVAC now has a new DVX100b as it's studio camera. I also am able to compliment it with my DVX100a and HDV200. We will be doing camera classes ourselves based on these cameras.

It'd be cool to replace that class with a DVX/HVX Boot Camp.

Dallas or Atlanta is fine. Personally, I don't consider Oklahoma "south" enough to include us way down here on the Gulf Coast. And on the Gulf Coast our resources have been ravaged enough, it hurts when events we desperately need like this are confined to the "upper crust" regions of the east/west coasts and Yankee Land. There is a south coast to this country, and here in New Orleans it is more full of Hollywood films being made than most other cities outside of California.

But we get ignored anyway. It's that old merit-less prejudice against the south as usual. I won't hold my breath for anything from anyone, Panasonic, Boot Camp, or otherwise, to happen in the south any time soon. They will continue to ignore us as usual. And if they do come down here, it'll be Oklahoma or Dallas, places where not nearly as much film making goes on as here in New Orleans.

At least we have NOVAC to help us fill in where no one else wants to help...

Considering Barry and I both LIVE in the South, you might to want to reconsider some of your assumptions. :costumed-smiley-047

Believe me, holding something closer to home is appealing.

Hey David and Barry,
Even Raleigh wouldn't be such a bad location if it makes it more appealing to you. Close to the research triangle, plus three major universities.

But, I will put another bid in for Savannah. Great tourist location. Close to Atlanta, Charleston and Jacksonville, FL. Plus, the Savannah College of Art and Design (I am not a student) is set to order about 30 HVX's for its students to use. One of the major focuses of the school is film and video and I'm sure there would be a major turnout from students. I would be willing to act as liason with the school to get the word out and solicit interest if it would help. The school has a number of galleries and theaters... perhaps we could get the school to "loan" us some space for the event. No promises... but I do have some contacts at the school that would likely assist. One of them recently purchased the HVX for shooting family videos.

One more thing... the NBC and CBS stations here are going with HVX's as their field cameras. So, there's another group of shooters that would be interested. In a past life I worked at both stations... perhaps the stations would be willing to help pay for their shooters to attend.

Please let me know if I can be of any help.

That all sounds like it would help, yes. Coordinating these events from hundreds (or thousands) of miles away isn't all that easy. The main thing is a guaranteed turnout. If we get 40+ at an event then it's totally worth doing. And if we can do one near Jacksonville, maybe we can get the elusive Terri Hartley to show up...

Again, it's primarily down to two factors: turnout, and logistics. If both items are there, we're glad to work it into the schedule.

I'm already going to be in Atlanta at the end of September, so if you think it's possible to put something together for the last weekend in September there, let me know (PM probably).

HVX Bootcamp in the SouthEast!

HVX Bootcamp in the SouthEast!

It would be absolutely amazing if the bootcamp came to the southeast! I'm in Columbia, SC and am contemplating attending the Chiacago HVX bootcamp but it would sure save me a hell of a lot of money if you were going to be anywhere closer by September.

I have a feature to shoot in November. Would you say something could be organized by then?? Oh, please, please, please, please....

I'll give you a HVX200 run through in my basement studio if you want! Nowhere near as cool as a Bootcamp but if you need to get up and running... I'll help you out man!
