Widescreen Overlays

I want to create overlays in Photoshop that I can use in post. Would someone please help me fill in the following numbers? (The square/non-square thing makes this a little fuzzy to me.)

If my project is set at 4:3...
Graphic Size = 655x480
for 16:9, each black bar should be ? pixels tall
for 1.85:1, each black bar should be ? pixels tall
for 2.35:1, each black bar should be ? pixels tall

Thanks!

Re: Widescreen Overlays

Briggs, I think it will be easier to work with 720x480 because that's the 'pixel' dimension of NTSC DV image. You can adjust that more easily in Vegas than anything else - just use the crop/pan tool on your mask. Alternatively, you can use 640x480 for the 'screen' dimension - that's probably a misnomer but I don't know a technical term for that.

Now, having that settled, here are the numbers you are asking for:

16:9
'screen' dimension: 640x360
black bar: 60 pixels

1.85:1
'screen' dimension: 640x346
black bar: 67 pixels

2.35:1
'screen' dimension: 640x272
black bar: 104 pixels

Note that no matter which pixel aspect ratio you use, as long as your starting point is a 4:3 image with 480 vertical pixels, the black bar height should remain same as above.

Oops! I missed the 16:9 project setup...

graphics dimension: 853x480

Here are the numbers:

1.85:1
screen dimension: 853x461
black bar height: 9 pixels

2.35:1
screen dimension: 853x363
black bar height: 59 pixels

Re: Widescreen Overlays

I used the horizontal blinds (generated media) and the TV safe outline (on the preview window) to make a really simple letterbox all in Vegas -- not sure what that aspect is though.
