What resolution to use for output to 35mm?

Re: What resolution to use for output to 35mm?

The highest resolution possible! NTSC is only capable of outputting 720x486. Where PAL is 720x546, I think my numbers are wrong. Basically if you want best film output you should shoot PAL model cameras or HD for the highest rez. I assume you have a US DVX. 720x480 and also expect some cropping top & bottom.

by the way, it anit cheap. :(

wait, if your talking about outputting AE projects to 35mm, then use their 35mm presets they have.

Re: What resolution to use for output to 35mm?

Video is typically output to film from a 2k or 4k scan. However, it's not uncommon to just render at HD resolution (1920x1080) and output that.

For an official answer, ask the lab that you intend to be using to output to film, and see what format they recommend you make your graphics in.

Hi Barry, I dont know that much about 2k and 4k scan stuff. Where can I find out more about that...I hear that term thrown around alot...(this is probably a dumb questions, but thanks)

Do a search on Cineon files on google, that should get you started. Primarily you need to be talking to your film transfer house for what they want. DVFilm makes it really easy, they just want 1920x1080 TIF's or BMP's.
