What kind of film insurance do I need?

What kind of insurance do I need for a low budget film shoot for 60 days on a budget of $119,000? Does anyone know and how much should I expect to spend on such insurance? Also for workman's comp, I only plan on insuring my two a-list star actors....everyone else has their own insurance and said it doesn't matter if they're covered or not since they have their own insurance.

In FL at least, if a company has 4 or more employees at the same time, workers comp is required by law. They can shut you down with a "stop work"order. I would imagine your actors may be independant contractors and thus exempt, but crew could well be emloyees. I'd suggest seeking appropriate advice.

The people you get your film permits from will tell you what kind of insurance you need. I'd start there, then add on what you need to insure your production, your cast, etc.

General insurance is typically 1.5% of your budget. If your money comes from a bank or a backer, they might want a completion bond. Those can cost 5%. With the other things you've mentioned, I'd plan for the worst case: insurance being about 7 or 8% of your overall budget.
