VirtualDub Image Sequence

I am trying to export an image sequence from a raw avi from virtual dub, rather than using vegas, since it's slow. But... I am having a problem. The gamma on the exported vegas jpegs seems to be accurate, but when exporting from virtual dub, the tiff files are darker than they should be. It seems like the way virtual dub handles gamma is off or something. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix for it? Are there any other good, fast programs for exporting still sequences?

Thanks in advance...

What program are you opening the tiff files in?

windows preview, and i can see the differences there, but ultimately will be editing them in photoshop to do color correction. if they were a little light that'd be acceptable, but too dark is harder to fix.

Exporting Image Sequence from Vegas?

Exporting Image Sequence from Vegas?

We've got our project completed, and I want to export out into a TARGA/TIFF image sequence. Can I not do that through Vegas? I must be missing something if I can, because I'm not seeing it as an option.

Otherwise I'm guessing I need to render out an uncompressed AVI file, then do that through another program?

That is correct. You can use Virtual Dub for exporting the image sequence.

There may be a way to write a script for vegas to export tiffs, but i don't know dot net very well and it will still be slow, I imagine.

Hmm, thanks. Spot, anyone else know of a script where I can just do it in Vegas?

What about OSS Video Decompiler? Anyone use that before or have thoughts on it?

The only vegas script i was able to find in my search was this (export images for range png)

It is kind of a pain and even slower than vegas's jpeg export.

I would recommend Virtual Dub it's free, fast, and easy to use.

Sure, but if you're exporting a batch of images for the purpose of uprezzing, don't you want TARGA/TIFF?

Yes, if you want the best quality image, a lossless format would be preferable. eg: tiff, targ, bmp, pgn, raw, etc... Anytime you re-save a jpeg it losses quality.

Oh, so PNG files are going to be the same quality/size as TIFF/TARGA??

Didn't know that. Please confirm before I waste my time going with PNG. I'll also have to check to see if Photozoom Pro can import and work with PNG.

They will be the same quality, but TIFF's that use the LZW lossless compression are going to be the smallest. PNG does ok lossless compression too. The filesize difference between png and TIFF screencaps is pretty inconsequential though, so PNG is ok. And photozoom pro, can import png files.

So to answer your question, png + photozoom pro will work fine.

Good to know, thanks. So I see my only options for Rendering Image Sequence are the JPG or PNG files. I'll obviously go PNG, thanks again for the explaination.

I've heard of people talking about Batch Rendering, and see the script for it, but when I checked it out (couldn't find anythin in the help menu about it), it really looked no different than if I were to go to FILE, select RENDER AS, and continue from there as normal. So, what's the Batch Rendering script really do?
