Video converter advice?

Hi all.

I need a program to convert various video types to ones I can edit in premiere and after effects.
Is this a good one?

I have the free version and it seems to do what I need, except for a divx logo it puts down in the corner.

Any you recommend that are either free or maybe around $50?
 
You might tell people which platform you are looking for, Mac/PC.

Also Premiere imports many different video types, is there something specific you are trying to achieve?
 
Sorry. I'm mainly using windows,
Cs5.

I get some formats sometimes that premiere and after effects won't open. The latest is a .flv they wont recognize. But sometimes I need to convert various types.
Also sometimes have to deconstruct DVDs and edit footage from them.
 
If you are running a trial version of the Adobe software -- meaning you downloaded it on a trial and then bought it, you may not have all the codecs installed. There is lots of help on the Adobe Forums for this issue. Premier Pro and AE both take flash flies. I have been using the Adobe suite since it was introduced and have yet to run into the problem. There are oodles of video converters out there for under a hundred.
