The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

Re: The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

There is more to this than simply whether you call it a documentary or not. It also has to do with how you position it in the mind of the consumer, the style – juxtaposing fact and fiction in the same scene. Do you remember movies like The Omen and The Exorcist? These movies were great at trading on peoples religious beliefs by taking a thread of truth (from the bible) and intertwining just enough of the right kind of fiction to suspend the audience’s disbelief, they were masterful at it. So clearly this is not a new technique, but when you left the theater, you did not hate Catholics or Protestants; you just went home and made sure your bed was firmly attached to the floor.

There is something very dishonest about filmmakers taking one scene and cutting it together out of context with another to profit from an unsuspecting public, then when a controversy starts they fan the flames to push there agenda, an agenda that was based on fiction in the first place. It is the easiest type of communication to produce, it is after all what children often do, yet the people who are currently doing it are profiting from it immensely.

So will there be more – duh, it’s a lance!

Re: The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

I might be missing something.. but who cares?

I watched that blair which thing on sci fi and totallly questioned its legitemacy, but you cares, its was meant to be hype.

Did anyone NOT think this aired just for the release on Village to hype the movie? Its just for fun. Are any of you not going to watch it now that u know it was made with the cooperation of Night?

If u were interested before i dont see why u should be any less interested now.

I'm not talking about the Blair Witch Project itself. I'm talking about an hour-long special that the Sci Fi channel aired ABOUT the BWP, and in it they totally portrayed it as factual evidence, got witnesses to testify to the legitimacy of the legend of the Blair witch, etc. And that hour-long special was totally fiction, although they said that at the time, they were plenty happy to let people believe it was real.

Very effective marketing, if the box office is any way to judge.

Also, the marketing campaign outside of Sci Fi played this game.

Re: The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

okay, this show is crackin me up. is it supposed to be put on? I haven't read the thread , but from what I gather from the few posts i have read it's just a marketing gimmick? Damn, I was hoping for some real documantary footage. As of now it's making Night look like an ass. " Don't make eye contact with him." gimme a break :/

Re: The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

yeah it's mostly fake.  and you're right about one thing..it is pretty funny...I just started laughing when they first started interviewing the kids..."Don't tell him!" "Tell me what?"  And then the chat room thing.  Its fun to watch tho and that was bascially the point I think..oh and to promote the Village. :D

Re: The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

wow...that show was useless...I just want to see the village already.

I was hoping M Night's secret was that the M stands for Mrs. :o :D

Re: The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

I left about 30 min into it.

I dont care about the fake and staged stuff, i knew about it and whatever it doesnt matter. Its just a fun way of presenting the show.

What i do care about is the complete lack of info. I thought this was supposed to be a documentory about Night and his career? so far its just a fictional movie about these guys who cant get an interview with a famous director who turns out to be leading some kinda cult or something.

Tell if it ever turns out to have something actually interesting later on :'(

Re: The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

well...The ending so you guys know, was giant hype...it was saying that all the movies Night has done...are actually autobiographical..sorta...whatever...

And that his house he used to live in when he was 10 was the same house as the one in Signs...and that he died one time...and crap...

Re: The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

How about those cheesy teen actors? HAHA they kinda sucked at acting...really really gave it away

Re: The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

what a cheeseball. he reminds me of David Blaine. who tries to take the art of magic to the next level.. which is great but hurting yourself mentally and physically in public and either saying it is and it's not an illusion...funny but who cares.

I did a search on google. His name is Manoj. great.

Re: The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

It was pretty bad and I'm not sure who they were trying to appeal to on this. I dont think THE VILLAGE needs any hype and this was just lame. I would rather have seen a legitimate doc on the filmmaker and not some cheese from Scifi.

Re: The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.

I also thought this was kinda dumb...but I found it kinda interesting how they came up with a whole story and somehow made it relate to Nights movies. Dumb, but a lot of thought went into it.
