Hey!

Is there anything I can do to reduce text flickering in AE? :undecided I decided to try to do Star Wars Intro, just for a test, but I have run into serious flickering problem...here's the link:

http://www.wwug.com/cgi-bin/viewarticle.cgi?id=27433-5

I have tried to chance the text font, different speeds for text, but still there's something wrong...When I compare it to the real Star Wars beginning there's not any flickering...How on earth they do it?

It gets even worse when the text is far away...

Does this have something to do with the 'lower' and 'upper' fields?

Any help would be much appreciated. I would like to learn how to do this, it would be useful also in the future with text animation...

Thanks! :)

Try frame blending, or create the text on a larger photoshop document and scale down. also, the speed at which you move the text up can cause it to flicker. I think the golden rule is 2 pixels per frame or varients of 2. Shouldn't be an interlace problem unless the text is in an interlaced video file.

if nothing seems to help, try duplicating the layer a few times to see if that helps, or offset a duplicate layer by 1 frame underneath.

I have had a video in coded with a DV codec, and when I have re-rendered it, the text has started flickering. I think yoi should try to change codec.

Thanks for the replies, guys! :)

Chris, awesome link, thanks! That surely helps a lot! I will watch also those other tutorials, very nice indeed.

Thanks, Rapier_100a. I will definately try your tips. I'm just wondering what do you mean by saying: "Try frame blending" ? :undecided Maybe I have to check out the manual&help.

Surf, I'm rendering my composition without compression to .avi file. (Video for Windows).

Hey! I found this: Effect => Video => Reduce Interlace Flicker and it seems to work!!! You can add a little bit softness with that effect. That text flickering is happening especially when I watch it from dvd on my TV. When I put this Reduce Interlace Effect on and put it to value: 1,0, it really works!

There is a button for frame blending you can check per layer, and to view it in action, you must enable it for preview. it does exactly what it says, blends frames together. This is usually most helpful for things like significantly slowed down footage, where the video begins to strobe.

How are you creating your text? In AE or as a different document? Unless you are working with a video file saved as interlaced footage, interlace based fixes and remidies will not really cover any flickering. They may help, but since you aren't working with interlaced footage, there is not really much for them to do.

Check your file settings for your text layer. Try frame blending, and also try enabling the motion blur for that layer. That will produce an even better result, but I neglected to mention it earlier. You will need to click on the boxes to enable them for the layer, as well as select them for preview. Expect a mild render hit for your ram preview. They will render even if not selected for preview, as long as the boxes for the layer are checked.

Thanks, Rapier. I will try that Frame Blending. I already tried it but for some reason, I can't use the 'Frame Blending', it's not available for that layer...strange...

I'm doing my text inside AE, just using fonts there. So not any different documents...would it be better to use a text that has been made for example inside Illustrator? Is there any difference? I've seen that some tutorials are using Illustrator text files...:undecided

Maybe it would be the most easiest that if you have some extra time, I could perhaps send you my project file for you to check it out. Just let me know if you are willing to do that. Thanks.

anyway, I realized I said it wrong. it was not a re-render. it was a simple render to wmv format in Premiere...

If you are using text from inside AE, you wont be able to use the frame blending option, because it is being generated in the program. It may help to use a different document from Illustrator. You can scale it that way.

If you wanna send me yer file, go ahead and I'll take a look. my address is in me profile.
