Stay - a perfect example of how Hollywood has run out of ideas.

Anyone checked out the flick "Stay"?

Has a great director in Marc Forster. A great cast with Ewan MacGregor, Naomi Watts, Ryan Gosling. I can only assume they all signed on strictly for a paycheck, or somehow signed on before reading the script.

The fact that this script gets greenlighted is a perfect example how new ideas are becoming obsolete. A plot twist movie without a plot to twist. As far as I see it, the script don't make sense and basically in the reality of the movie there shouldn't really be a script!
(feel free to correct me if you've seen the movie and truly understand it)

minor spoilers below -

For 90 minutes we are lead on a somewhat bizarre ride involving MacGregor as a psychiatrist trying to stop Gosling from committing suicide. We are lead to believe through visual hints that MacGregor and Gosling are the same person. Watts plays MacGregor's girlfriend, who once tried to commit suicide herself, a sub story which comes up a lot for some reason. Add some more minor characters and twists... eventually we get to the big plot twist that'll make everything we've seen make sense...

But then we get an ending that has pretty well nothing to do with what we've watched for the first 90 minutes. The only correlation is that all the people we met earlier in the film are involved in the ending. 90 minutes worth of a wild goose chase that has little to do with the climax.

Anyone who's seen the movie and get's it - please give me your thoughts.

I say stay away from Stay. (i shoulda gone and seen Doom instead).

Someone else hit the nail on the head in their review on IMDB:

"Unfortunately, "Stay" has the aura of a straight-to-video thriller blessed with a well-known cast... "

HOWEVER, when this baby hits DVD, be sure to check out the included featurette "Departing Visions" -- a poetic short-fom documentary on near death experiences that i co-produced, co-wrote, shot and edited!!! it's a project that i'm very proud of. Fox Home Entertainment took a giant risk in allowing me to create a totally original piece that has nothing to do with the movie, "Stay", for their DVD.

Congratulations. That's awesome. On a side note, based on the review by Stabb, Fox wasn't really taking a risk as not even the climax had anything to do w/ the movie. lol. I hate Ryan Gosling, and Hollywood is getting worse and worse.

From what Stabb had to say, it sounds like Fox made a very smart choice, including cygnet's piece which has nothing to do with "Stay..."

on another thread some people have raved about this film, i think its the best photography in film thread.

One person called it a masterpiece. would you say the cinematograhy is impressive, at least? I was going to go see it, but will just wait for dvd now. i hate throwing away $8.

It does have nice cinematography. It has a grainy under saturated look, along the lines of The Machinist.

It has some clever transitions, some interesting shot angles, a few snorry cam shots.

They do a great job of telling us MacGregor and Gosling are the same person by the way they shot them, only it makes no sense once you get to the end.

If you wanted to see it primarily for the look, for sure wait for dvd so you can watch it multiple times and get extras too.

I haven't figured out everything yet but that's why I liked the movie... the dialogue wasn't the greatest but all in all I enjoyed it.
