I just attended a screening of this film last evening with my daughter (she worked on an in theater promotional piece for the film). I must say that this film could easily be lumped into the category of a "chick flick" but frankly, the performances and cinematography (by Roman Osin) transcended that label by a large margin.
I found that the underlying story was compelling enough to be of interest, but the on screen look and the very impressive camera movement (lots of technocrane shots) were more than enough to keep my attention. Kiera Knightley's performance was excellent and she is such a natural beauty that I didn't mind watching her performance at all.

Casting was generally very good, the production design was very impressive and the lack of a overly romanticized approach to the book was a refreshing change to this type of film. My suspicion is that this film will do very well in the box office and easily stands a good chance of getting some serious nominations. If you want to take your wife/girlfriend to a film which she will thoroughly enjoy and you can watch on a number of different levels, then this would be one that I would suggest considering.
