Oldboy

While Oldboy is certainly cool, great filmmaking in parts, I think it fails as a whole. The story is just too convoluted and preposterous...the ending is just ridiculous. With that said, Choi Min Sik is awesome in Oldboy.

Personally, I think Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is Chan Wook Park's best film--though I have yet to see Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Joint Security Area is also very good.

I agree with shaun totally on this one... The first hour is probably the most incredible 60 minutes of film I've seen in awhile and then the plot just gets proposterous, convulted, and riduclous.
That one dolly shot, where the main character takes on all those guys is one of the coolest shots ever!
The director is def. someone to watch.

I disagree. I thought the story line was clear and clean and certainly not TOO preposterous for a film.

I loved this movie. I thought it was incredible.

Everything about it, except a few of the digital zooms they used, which looked fishy to me.

Some of the coolest scene work in any movie.

Rook,

Have you seen Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance or JSA? Those are far superior to Oldboy. Plus, Sympathy is a much better revenge flick than Oldboy. Check 'em out if you haven't already.

that one hammer fighting scene still blows my mind...

glad to see some Korean directors coming about. represent.

also, I agree that sympathy for Mr. vengeance is better than oldboy, but both are still amazing in my opinion

Shaun, haven't seen JSA. But loved sympathy. Great movie. And the girlfriend in it is super cute.
