OHCI IEEE 1394 not in vidcap device preference

Hi,
I think ive been a bad spoiled brat. After more than 3 years of fuzz free editing with Vegas its finally giving me a dose of its underestimated quirks; the video capture.
Ive managed to get used to periods of 'device not detected' but thats it, never had anything so serious that recycling camera, rebooting and even a reinstall had not solved. Im a contented Vegas user.

Now its again the video capture. Im in the middle of a project and just need to add some footage but somehow the capture window didnt open. Puzzled, i looked in the preferences and found external videocap application was checked (default?) so i unchecked it. i knew something is still wrong when i powered the cam ( which normally opens a new project) nothing happened and the capture window didnt show up. I clicked 'capture video' from the file menu and it opened the window but telling me 'no device selected' . I opened device prefs and to my surprise, the drop down doesnt offer OHCI complant IEEE 1394 DV device from the choices. It has 'NONE', (which is checked at the moment) 'IEEE 1394 /MPEG2-TS device' and ' Blackmagic Design Deck Link' as options on the list.

I have tried all my usual workarounds; recycle camera power, reboot, reinstall Vegas 6. and nothing seems to do it. Ive also checked if the camera is detected and it is highlighted OHCI complant IEEE 1394/DV in the 'preview device' and 'print device' dropdowns. Really weird.

to anybody who had the same problem before, i really would appreciate it if you could share how you got out of this fix .

The external video capture application is the one you should be using, isn't it? vidcap60 (or whatever it's called).

The internal one is for HD, I think.

Yeah. external vidcap is for DV and internal for HD (its been addressed in another thread down) but both doesnt work for me. when i uncheck the default (internal) the capture app/window will not open. if i use the default (external) it will but doesnt include the OHCI dv device as option. No probs with my firewire, it shows conected when i go to Print Device and Preview Device (preferences).

i think i just got a little spooked by my some unknown Vegas spirits to remind me not to lower my guards down. I chose Vegas in the first place because im no techie, i just love how the creative process takes the upper hand with this program and i have enjoyed just that, creating.

thanks for the reply though.

What version of Vegas 6 are you using? Sounds like you might need to update to 6.0d. Some people using earlier versions had a problem where the external capture program did not open.
