overrated. i think his defining pieces worth recognition were Empire of the Sun and AI.

i thought the ending is where the movie shined. people ***** and complain about how its so long and the ending is too open and theyre like "wtf happened omg it wuz so l0ng" immature stuff like that. it was a very mature movie, and it's hard to make a movie with that kind of story work. people also dont realize that it was an inheritted project, by his teacher mr. Kubrick, who drew screenshots and everything. Stanley gave it to Spielberg because he said "you have to do this. i can't do this" it was almost like Stanley Kubrick knew he wouldn't finish it in time, and when he died, Spielberg HAD to do it. I am surprised he pulled it off so well, a roject that wasn't even his original vision. i especially liked the underwater sceneand the freak show. if you think about it, it's such a heavy movie! I loved it.

There were actually two endings to the movie from what I heard. The original ending was one where the boy ends up at the bottom of the water and it ends right there. The other is when the boy gets rescued and everything is happy. Kubrick's was the first one, Spielburg's the second.

Saving Private Ryan overrated? w/e...

Empire of the Sun his best work? It was good, but it didn't have the same impact as the others...

EMPIRE is a truly an underated film I think but it is MISSING something.

Yes, that's exactly what I think about that film John... it's lacking something that is essential for making it stand above other films. It seems to just be run of the mill... not bad, but not special...

I would have liked to have seen more of JIMS normal life and then the Occupation happens and there is some bloodshed and crap. I dont know, just thinking.
