Lighting Question HELP!

I have a Mole Richardson baby solar spot 2K and it came with a Bates 3 prong plug. I purchased the bates female to edison male adapter so I can plug it into a home socket or regular edison socket in the field. Do I absolutely need a breaker box on a 2k if it is the only light I will be using other than a 1k, 650, or 300watt fresnel? I would NEVER stress a breaker with both of my 2k's at once but does it matter?
 
On a side note...

If the light you have has a CYX 2K lamp, you could also lamp down if needed to a CYZ 1.5K, or a CYV 1K lamp.

Definitely lamp down to a lesser wattage if using household circuits. Even if the circuit is rated at 20 amps, you never know when something else might be on it, and older breakers and fuses might trip at less than their rating.
 
Thanks so much guys. I'm just gonna lamp down to 1k but I hope the lamp fits the 2k mole socket. Its HUGE! I am going to check now.
 
I don't know how to do the rewiring and stuff so I took the short cut with the adapter...lol. I guess I will look into learning how. Good thing to know. Thanks!
 
Hey Dre- it's not a matter of offending anybody. It's just that there's a whole section of the forum devoted to lighting, where people who use a myriad of cameras answer lighting questions, and where others looking for info might find your thread helpful.
That's all. Check it out sometime. Probably more traffic than the AF100 section, too.

Edit- I just noticed this was moved to Cinematography- wouldn't the Lighting Gear section be better?

Replacing the original connector is not too difficult. Just make sure you follow the color code. THe pins on the new connector are usually marked. In the US Green is ground, black is hot, and white is neutral. If it's a EU cable than Green/Yellow is ground, brown is hot and blue is neutral. This is for a standard incandescent lamp plug. Just make sure that your connections on the new plug are firm, as loose connections offer greater resistance which can cause connector failure (connector heats up and melts or catches fire).
 
I'll offer up that while I have replaced a number of connector ends, I still keep a few lights with Bates connectors & Edison adapters, which allows me to easily integrate them into use with Bates taps when needed.
