Hi! I'm new to Vegas 5 and I need some help. Can someone tell me the easiest way to synch my DAT sound to my video clips? Thank you.

Actually, I did use a slate. I'd still like any ideas as to the easiest way to synch up the DAT sound to the video using Vegas 5. Thank you.

Capture your tapes. Capture your Dat tapes as one long wav file. Put the clip in the timeline match up the slate video with the Audio. Be sure to magnify your clips fairly large so you can see the audio clearly. Match the dat audio to the on camera audio. If the audio is slightly off you can use the stretch and shrink feature of vegas by holding down the Ctrl key and grabbing the end of your clip and stretching or shrinking it to match. Use any visual peaks and valley to match the two audios. After you are done delete or mute the camera audio and render to a new DV compressed AVI for easy editing or just start editing. Then do the next tape. Time consuming but next time have someone clap in front of the camera or use the clap on the slate for every scene or everytime you stop and start recording. Log the time on a ledger (shot log) and it will be a lot easier next time. If this is a band video use the drummers snare as your sync tool.
