DaVinci Resolve working with cheaper Intensity Pro card...

I don't understand how they are covering their own behind. Just tie it to their cards and they would sell quite a few. If I am not mistaken they don't get a dime from apple for using their operating system.

You don't understand. The main reason many companies offer Mac only software is because it's much easier, simpler and safer for them to offer support. The Mac is a closed platform. So they can fully test and optimize their software to work with it and they can guarantee the performance, functionality etc. Now Windows is pretty much an open platform. There are like a gazillion Windows machine manufacturers and a Bazillion different brands and specs of components to choose from and you can even put your own together. Now if they offered a Windows version, some cheap skate would go out and buy the cheapest parts and put a machine together. Even if the parts would meet the minimum requirements specified by Blackmagic, they would still be the cheapest and probably just not quality parts. Not all components are made the same, even with same specs. Then Resolve wouldn't run properly because of some hardware conflict or some cheap parts or under spec'ed components and then the customer will call Blackmagic complaining Resolve doesn't work or post bad reviews and complain on forums tarnishing the image of the product while it's not the software's fault at all. . They don't want to deal with that. Some companies like Adobe are ok with that and have the infrastructure to deal with it. But many don't want to mess with the, well, the mess which is the wintel platform. As simple as that.
 
Oooooohhhhhhhhhh what I like is when people finish their argument with things 'As simple as that' I really feel stupid and small and ... I guest you see what I mean. In fact, in light of what you said I can see that it is a very good point. But unfortunately it went a little bit out of context. Until now, I think that PC core hardware are very high quality. They are produce by only a few manufacturers from the processor, motherboard, memory and harddisk (most graphic cards0. Where it can be lower quality are in the more mechanical parts and peripherals, like mouse, keyboard, power supply etc... In terms of stability, I can tell you that my windows 7 Pc has been very very stable. I don't even remember when I had any problem with it. But I do understand your point above and it is quite valid in some ways, in compatibility perhaps, but not in dishing the quality of the components in a PC. Until perhaps someday when we will be invaded by a slew of no name brand from china it is not the case. I remember the day when it was announced that Apple would move on PC hardware, I thought that some would have committed suicide.

Another thing, when I went on search for info on the Davinci and hackintosh. I felt on some threat from reduser and creativecow and some where readily using and building hackintosh, not because they where cheaper but that the under spec'ed hardware of the Mac Pro, which have not been updated compared to today's PC!!! That is the irony of life, unfortunately I don't has any answer as simple as that.

In other news, if anyone has noticed, the next version of Resolve will feature openCL, so now you'll be able to use the ATI graphics cards in all the new macs for hardware acceleration.

Advanced OpenCL image processing has been incorporated into DaVinci Resolve 8, and this allows a broader range of GPUs to be used for real time processing up to 1080 HD resolutions. OpenCL based processing, while not as powerful as CUDA™ processing also used on DaVinci Resolve, does allow a much wider range of computers that can be used for color grading. Now Apple iMac™ and MacBook Pro™ series computers can be used for real time grading, allowing customers to use the computer hardware they already have. DaVinci Resolve 8 running on a MacBook Pro is a perfect on set color grading tool.

i've just seen your post and was happy to read about the intensity card working with davinci. is it still working or are there any new drivers out which killed this feature?

I’m glad I stumbled on this thread. I have to replace my Kona LHe with a Blackmagic card so I can use a external monitor with Davinci Resolve Lite. For editing I’m upgrading to Premiere CS6 as soon as it ships but until then using both FCP7 and Premier CS5.5.

The intensity Pro would be perfect if it works for all these applications. I have the Nvidia 4000 but don’t have the nVIDIA GeForce GT 120 GUI card installed yet. Found a used one and haven’t received it yet. I purchase a flashed GTX 285 and using it in another workstation offsite with the Apple nVIDIA GeForce GT 120 as the GUI. Works as it should.

Is anyone using the Intensity Pro with Premiere CS5.5? Would be wonderful if I can put off spending $945. on the Decklink card BMD has in the configuration guide. At least for a while.

I’ve had plenty of issues with my Kona LHe card so if it works that would be great!
