Creating a movie poster

Hey,

I'm shooting a feature on my Panasonic DVX100. I am shooting 24p of course and want to make a poster out of screen grabs from the film. What is the best way?

Should I master to HD? How do I do this?

Chris

unfortunately, you don't have nearly enough resolution in that screen grab to blow-up into a full size poster. at a minimum, a theatrical poster should be 27"x40" at 150dpi. ideally the resolution should be 300dpi.

so, in my opinion, the best thing to do would be to re-create the shot and shoot some high-res stills of it.

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but has anyone thought
of doing a photo montage of screen caps when you don't have any
high-resolution stills? Here's a link to some software that does just that:

Has anyone used this software or something similar?

Slimed Movie Poster Art

Hi everyone, just wanted to share the poster art for our short feature Slimed. It’s a Sci-Fi comedy, horror film.
I hand painted the illustration in photoshop. Mockup and reference photo are attached below. Actual poster is printable 27x40.

Enjoy!

What happened to the early posts in this thread?

if you mean prodigi's post turning into a's, looks like he went through and cleared his posts when he left.

and @Jeff... WOW! that came out amazingly. Never underestimate an illustrated poster, especially when done this well.

All of prodigi's posts were edited two years after he made them :/ and every one was saying how much good info was in them too. fail

Here's the teaser for a new short inspired by and for an upcoming exploitation fest. Pretty much just found a stock image and halftoned it. new will be done (hopefully) soon. it's a very complicated method of recreating a still from the film.

Hi, sort of a weird request. But those of you who read prodigi's original posts, if you can remember anything could you maybe summarize some of prodigi's thoughts? Just seems like they were pretty good thoughts.

Thanks!

Prodigi was the best.
I remember him saying... Unless you have recognizable actor faces, don't use unknown actor's faces in the poster. Instead, use "iconic" imagery of what the story is about.
