This wasn't a film that I thought was going to leave a great impression on me as I was watching it, partly because of the competition it was going up against, namely, Trainspotting and Requiem for a Dream, and partly because it didn't seem "distinct" enough, but its been in my mind for the past few days.

I thought the acting was superb insofar as communicating the depth of emotion of the characters. However, I felt that this wasn't supported visually as far as the experience of drug-taking goes; felt they could've done more in that department.

Sure, I think the film was more about their relationship than drug use per se, but take for instance the final kiss between Dan and Candy - I felt that the filmmakers really communicated the intensity of that moment well by cutting between that and shots of the gyro thing and I felt that something similar could've been done to depict their drug experience as opposed to just watching them getting high - like, forgive me, but I don't know what that feels like.
