A Lot Like Love

I try to avoid romantic comedies like the plague. I haven’t seen a good once since Tao of Steve, and Hollywood has all but killed the rom com genre with fluffy crap. So when my wife wanted to go see A Lot Like Love over the weekend I was expecting a cheesed up When Harry Meet Sally. But I figured watching Amanda Peet on screen for an hour and half couldn’t be all bad.

Let me just tell you, I was pleasantly surprised. This film is what romantic comedies should be. It had all of the standard rom com formula scenes, but the writing from first timer Colin Patrick Lynch was truly inspired. He took the typically clichéd scenes and breathed fresh life into them. Not to mention the acting of Amanda Peet and (surprisingly) Ashton Kutcher was really fantastic. It was also the best work I’ve seen from Director of Photography John de Borman.

All and all I was happy with my wife’s pick for a Friday night movie, I just regret that she made me watch Maid in Manhattan on Saturday night.

Definitely check out A Lot Like Love with someone that you love.

I like romantic comedies. but the J.LO varieties out there have turned me OFF.
