24p to 30p without strobing and funky motion blur?

Hey guys,

I accidentally shot some footage for a client at 24p when it was supposed to be 30p. After converting the framerate to 29.97, all the motion looks strange and has a ghost effect. Any ways to fix this?

I was just talking about this in another thread called 24p/30p if you want to search for it.

You will need to do a 3:2 pulldown of your 24p footage to get 30fps (also known as telecine), but note that while this process will produce 30 frames per second, because the original footage was shot at 24 the overall look of the footage will still look as if it was shot at 24! (The 3:2 pulldown process basically blends certain frames so you end up with 30 frames made from using the 24.)

After Effects can do a 3:2 pulldown for you quite easily. Setup a 24p composition and drop your 24p footage to the timeline and add to render queue. In the "render settings" under "frame rate" pick "use this frame rate" and enter in 29.97. Under "time sampling" from the 3:2 pulldown menu select "on" instead of "off".

Let me know if you give it a try and how you make out with that.
