As a student in a video production class, it surprises me that instructors cannot really explain exactly how one uses a NTSC calibrated monitor.
They are quick to advise that monitors should be calibrated, and they can lead you thorugh the steps to do that. However, no one is really clear...
I am trying to learn about gels and what each type will do. I have not been able to find much that explains the differences. Also, what would be a good set of gels for a relative beginner. I will be shooting narrative on DV, primarily.:)
I just did a shoot in a bar where the director wanted low light and high contrast. To do this, my camera, a Sony VX2000, went to 18db gain. It looked good on the NTSC monitor. The result however is quite dark. I think my question is: how do I get the dark, contrasty look without going to use...
I'm still in the learning stage. I have been experimenting with the Rosco diffusion sample kit of 15 gels, using an egg as a subject. I see almost no difference between the various gels. Is it that subtle? Am I doing something wrong? I am using a Home Depot light with homemade barndoors, 250 watt.
what lights to buy?
posted 10/04/2006 12:34 PM EDT reply I'm looking to buy my first lights on a budget of about $2,500 or so. I shoot dramatic videos and occasional interviews. I realize the trend is toward smaller lights for video, however I am concerned that once you put diffusion...
I'm offering my services to nonprofit organizations to do film projects for free, such as making public service announcements. However when I phone TV stations, they generally only accept PSAs in Beta SP format. I shoot mini-DV . How is this usually done?
Am taking a Final Cut Pro class.... what a pain!! It is extremely complicated and not very intuitive. Plus you need a Mac . However it seems to be the industry standard.
I have heard good things about Vegas. Where is it leading? Does one really need FCP to work in independent films? Will...
I was told on another forum that the AT 4073a mike can have a hollow sound when used on the camera shoe. Anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions (beyond taking the mike off the shoe)? thanks
I'm wondering about the possibility of using a flashplayer like Cowon iAudio U2 or Creative Zen Vision to record audio when shooting. These have 95 db sig/noise and 1 Gig memory or better. They are fairly cheap. I don't know how much you can control audio level, etc.
I have a Sony DVX2000 and a new Beachtek DXA-6vu. The Sony lets me choose either 12 bit or 16bit mode. The 16 bit is much preferable in quality. But with 16 bit you cannot adjust the balance with the Audio Mix control. Is that a problem, or does the Beachtek now allow me to overcome it? I.e, is...
