These days I'm mostly an editor running my own small video production company and working on various videos for organizations, both local and national. Projects such as promotional pieces, member profile videos, political outreach campaign videos, and event videos. Both for events and of events. Between myself (who gets behind the camera every so often) and one of my videographers, we do a handful of shoots each year that I edit. The rest of the time clients are sending me videos shot by other videographers from around the country to piece together.
In the past I used to do more corporate videos, working with a variety of clients from fortune 500 companies to smaller mom and pop shops. Doing everything from web promos, to local TV commercials, event videos, and a lot of training videos. That was back when I was working as the lead DoP/editor for a local media company that I was at for over eleven years, before going out on my own.
As a videographer/cinematographer, I've been shooting now for nearly 20 years professionally and over 34 years in total (as of June 7th, 2025). Having started at the age of 12 with my parents 8mm video camera doing stop-motion animation and then moved into live-action narrative filmmaking with video 8, VHS, super8, and 16mm film. I embraced digital video in 1998 and in 2003 I directed my first feature film shot over the course of three months with a cast and crew of 22 people; all of whom stuck with the project and wanted to work with myself and my producer again. The film premiered at a local art house theater and was available on a limited edition DVD. We made our money back on the film and learned a lot in the process. It wasn't a very good movie, but I'm happy to have completed it and got to meet and work with great people, many of whom I still know today. However, being that it was shot on miniDV in 60i on a Canon XL1, it doesn't really hold up to today's standards, but I am working on a remaster.
The last short film I shot and directed was back in 2022 with some friends of mine. The first short film I had worked on in 16 years. Hoping to get back to doing more of them. I've always enjoyed filmmaking as a hobby. I just don't seem to find the time or inspiration to do it enough.
Aside from video production work, I enjoy writing and I am currently (as of June 7th, 2025) working on a fantasy novel adaptation of a feature film script I half wrote back when I was twenty years old. We'll see how that goes, still in the early stages of that. But so far so good.
