I agree with your first point. It's really too bad that a simple command-line approach like ffmbc doesn't work, because all that does, is a rewrap from MXF to MOV with no change to the video stream. With a "normal" MXF file containing a DNxHD essence, the ffmbc rewrap process is almost as fast...
