"depends"
If you're very close to talent, then it's silly to run at max power and overload your own receivers.
Just like you don't place your light at max power if you've got it only 5 feet away from talent! Nah, you put it at max power when you're shooting through a window and you're fifty...
To update this for 2026, then the newly announced Behringer FLOW 4V field recorder from a few weeks ago earlier this year, if it gets launched without any deal breaker hiccups, will surely be the king of "sub US$300 recorders" at only US$279 (expandable up to 16 tracks!):
For just US$229...
To update this for 2026: I reckon the newly announced Shure SLXD+ Series is right up there as one of the best (arguably the best ) low budget wireless a person can buy new today in 2026.
You're getting audio quality, ergonomics, and features that are not too far off from the very best of the...
32bit is great for videographers who have to juggle sound themselves, or people who are working in house, but for Production Sound Mixers? Nah, handing over 32bit files is a quick path to getting yourself fired! Besides, at this level, nobody who is Mixing needs 32bit in their day to day work
They haven't even come back to clarify further yet :-(
And if they're doing that, then it makes sense we figure out what it is and let them know about better ways to do it! As otherwise we're doing them a disservice to ignore that aspect.
Such an automated production process is very capital intensive. Which I guess as a small company then RED didn't have access to.
Also requires a totally different type of skilled expertise that RED didn't have either.
But now thanks to Nikon, all this is possible.
Undoubtedly the Sony FX6...
Yes DSCM2 bodies are going to see some harsh depreciation during 2025 (well, unless this RED price drop is just clearing out a few remaining stock and thus this deal is gone and done before the month is over).
Raven and any DSMC1 bodies are going to be practically given away.
But then again...
Yup, for that sort of stuff it does the job "good enough".
Honestly even for myself as a serious full time "sound professional" I'm very tempted to get the DJI Mic Mini 2 which is a perfect pairing for the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 (maybe even get the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro, for when I need something...
Even way back in their earliest days they had aggressive sale prices for their cameras after they'd been out for a while, such as even for the RED ONE.
It's handy the Sony UWPs have a headphone output. It's a common trick for those on an ultra low budget (if they don't have dedicated IEM/IFB/Comteks) to use them for wireless monitoring. I did that myself before I purchased dedicated gear.
Now in 2025 the older Lectro 200 series goes for shockingly cheap prices, I'd go for those over any 2.4GHz wireless. Yes, they're ancient, but still better.
But it depends on the context, you're on an ultra low budget and in the Sound Department? (indie film shoots or whatever)
Then for sure, go...

Am curious what is behind this.
1) the manufacturing might of Nikon allowing them to lower costs? Thus price cuts for their other cameras are coming as well?
2) strong price competion from the BMD Pyxis / Sony FX3 / Canon C70 / Panasonic S5IIX /...
