Recent content by clueless FCP user

I shot a film in HD format, and now I can't open it on FCP. Apparently I have to change them into Quicktime files, how on earth do I do that?? Can it be done for free? My computer is a MacBookPro, brand new. My version is FinalCutPro.6. I'm a dummy when it comes to technology so I don't mind...
