Finally got my Letus35 Flip. No Left, Right problems, No Upside Down Problems,
& No Magnets!
Opinions: right out of the box & screwed onto the DVX with my Canon 1.4 lens,
one word...WOW! That's the look I've been screaming for since I bought the DVX.
It went from a "reality show" look to a 35mm (well more like 16mm) look instantly.
It did take some cleaning due to the packaging popcorn. A little lens cleaner &
compressed air and I was in business. It is pretty HEAVY! I feel like the end
of the camera would fall off with extended use. Light Loss, well, I figure the
light loss estimations were way under estimated, at least with my lens. Tip; if
you test the adapter out for the first time, do it during the day or you will be
discouraged. Example, with a small "interview" lighting setup, my DVX looks great
between 2.8 & 4.0. With the Letus35 Flip, you would need to go Wide Open,
and slow the shutter to 1/24 to get anywhere close to the same exposure,
or use a "Buttload" of light. I mean a "BUTTLOAD"! That said, outside in natural
sunlight, it is simply Beautiful! The vibration of the GG is not noticable. Although,
I would like to see an LED on the power supply to let you know if it is on or off.
The Biggy...Not having to flip the footage in post, or having to use magnets or
external LCD monitors mounted upside down. That is worth the price of admission. Now the Questions!!!
Question:
1. Rod Supports, where & how much? Everyone is out of stock on the Cavision
rods. You would really need this setup with the Flip http://www.cavision.com/rods/lenssupport.htm
as it tends to come Un-mounted from its step down ring. Mine pulls right off.
2. How do I get "More" depth of field? Different lenses? The depth of focus on
my 50mm 1.4 is mere inches, and the focal range is about 50 ft, after that it's
fuzz city.
3. How would you dolly in or use a jib with a 35mm adapter? I would love to
weld this thing to the end of the DVX & leave it, however, you really need 3 hands
to constantly focus the darn thing.
That's all for now. Sorry for being long winded. Please overlook my "Nashville"
grammar.
Thanks,
Adrian
