BeBob Foxi for the HVX-any word?

Anyone seen the Bebob zoom controller for the DVX yet? Their Zoe controller for the DVX was so superior to the Vatizoom controllers that I'm inclined to get their new controller for the HVX over the Varizoom model...

Bebob has now a list with all accessories on their website www.bebob.de (most is in German, though).

The FOXI remote focus & iris control looks just SUPERCOOL and I will seriously consider buying that one instead of a mechanical follow focus. It claims to have markable scales and sells for 395€ list plus tax.

The Zoe-dvx is said to work with the HVX and sells for 149€ plus.

BTW: Prices for the HVX are already DROPPING in Germany, before any single piece has been shipped: www.fideocam.de offers the HVX for 5258€, which comes pretty close to the current $5500 in the US, so all the blahblah-crybaby-nonsense about overpriced HVX's in Europe was pure bs. (And if anyone still complains about taxes, I'm going to scream).

BTW 2: All the info was from the Feb edition of the German magazine "Film & TV Kameramann", which has a lot of interesting ads for HD cams. The Canon XL-H1 has come down to 7300 Euros already!

I have been all over that site, and still can't find any info on the FOXI... where did you find it on their site?

Sorry, apparently they still don't have it on their site, just in print (strange  )

It is advertised as an exclusive HVX product

Thanks... the picture makes it look as though it is only for the focus and iris? Apparently, you still need a Zoe for the zoom control? Varizoom has an all-in-one model as well as an ad on for those that already have a zoom controller...

Yes, you're right. Dunno if an All-in-one is in development. On the other hand the Foxi seems to have a HUGE dial and could be a real blessing for focus with the option of iris control. I personally don't need remote zoom that much.

I'll post here if Bebob is making new announcements.

Bild 089-klein.jpgHello All,

my name is Pierre. I´m working at bebob. You didn´t find any more informations about foxi in our site because the pictures of the final product have been made friday night. I hope to have foxi online by the middle of the week.

The first shipment to the US leaves on friday (only 10 units) it is available from our distirbutor in Burbank (16x9inc - contact Jeff Giordanno - jeffg@16x9inc.com)

i tried to put a couple of pictures as a "preview" as an attachment of this mail - hope it did work.
A full selection fo Hi-Res pictures will be available in the next days under www.press.bebob.de.

Regarding a combined Zoom/focus/ iris remote in one unit: We thaught up to now that it is more usefull to have it in two units (zoom in the right hand, Focus in the left hand) either in a "studio-like" configuration, or in a "Focus-Puller" configuration. But we are open for any idea/critic/suggestion.

Don´t hesitate to contact me if you nee any more infos,

Pierre

can you set pencil marks on the controller or do repeatable focus pulls? Same for zoom?
According to their printed ad: YES.
But hopefully Pierre can confirm.
Pierre: Thanks for the great images! This looks like an awesome piece of equipment!

Had a chance to use the Varizoom on a production today. Eh. Not too impressed. The connectors are not the way they should have been, and the throw on the wheel is pretty short, it's not all that easy to fine-adjust focus. And pressing on the cable could cause anomolous behavior, so -- I had ordered a Varizoom, but I think I'll cancel that and wait to see what else comes down the pike. This Bebob looks good, I like the idea of having the zoom & s/s on one and focus/iris on the other.

you can put marks with pencil as well on the focus (12mm wide white surface around the knob) as on the Iris (as well 12mm wide)

around the focus knob, we have 4 fixed little arrows- top bottom left right (you see the top one on the picture), so that you can put marks from which ever direction you look at the knob. For the iris, the white surface is fixed and the arrow moves.

If you use th knob only with one camera, then you put the marks once and that´s it. It you use it with several cameras, it seems that the tolerances into the camera will force you to make the marks differently for each camera. you can eventually use white tape and put it on the existing white surface.

pierre,

Does the Foxi have any electronic steps in the control, or is it stepless and smooth in it's ability to pull focus?

thanks!

both Focus and Iris are absolut stepless. It is an analogic control and not a digital control. you have a similar feeling as with a traditional follow-focus. The only limitation is the speed of the camera internal Focus motor. the built in friction in the focus knob allows you as well to make very slow regula and precise focus "drives"

barry, we have the first shipment leaving for the us on friday. I asked Jeff already to put one piece by the side for you. Call him under +1 (8 18) 9 27 28 39 to arrange how to ship one unit to you.

let me know what you think about it after the test. we are open for any idea/suggestion/critic,...
