Need budget shotgun mic for AG-DVC30

I just bought a Panasonic AG-DVC30, and I need a shotgun to mount on it. It will mostly be used indoors for shorts and documentaries, but the occasional outdoor shot will be used as well. I will be getting the AG-MYA30G XLR Mic adapter as well. I've found a couple $200-ish Audio-Technica and Azden shotguns on B&H, but are those any good? Would the RODE NTG-2 or Oktava hyper-cardioid be good? I found the NTG-2 bundled with a shockmount also at B&H for $269. That a good deal? I was also pointed to the AKG C1000S. Does that work well for video? Any advice is very helpful, thanks!

Hey John,

First, please search the archives. This topic has been covered probably hundreds of times.

The Rode NT2 or the Audio Technica 897 are the favored super-low-budget mics. I don't know of anyone in this group that would seriously recommend any Azden mic.

But, something to think about. You just spent xx thousands of dollars on a camera so you can get beautiful images...why would you think that you can spend $200 on a mic and get great sound?

#10 came true in 36 hours rather than the week I predicted!!!

I'm psychic, who wants lotto numbers, I'm selling them.

JohnDubya, check this thread, they stickied it just to prevent this sort of post (hence the reaction you're getting).

FYI, I read other posts for about a half hour before I wrote this post. The biggest reason I posted my specific situation is because I don't know if every shotgun mic works for every camera...hence, I put my specific model of camera. That way, someone could say, "Well, that mic doesn't work for this camera, but this one does." But thank you for the links. I appreciate the help.
