Just Got My Movie Back

Blaine

Mr. Hollywood
Yeah, I'm stupid. We'd spent almost six months in post and were not backing up the way we should have been. Lesson learned...the hard way. We were getting ready to take the VO off the trailer when the LaCie 500 DIED. Wouldn't show up on the desktop! Took it to the Apple Store...they couldn't see it either. Called LaCie and they told me if I wanted the info off it I'd need to send it to a Data Recovery Service. Their recommendation was DriveSavers. After a lot of research on alternatives we bit the bullet and sent it out to DriveSavers. (LaCie sent them a drive [warranty] to put whatever could be saved on.)

A week later we're back in business. DriveSavers recovered 100% of our data, which has now been backed up TWICE!

I had been seeing complaints about the LaCie drive but since it seemed to be working well for me (we only had about two weeks left in post) I didn't pay too much attention. Big mistake. BIG MISTAKE.

But I've got it back now so we are back in business. (Less time to post now that I'm back to editing ;) ) Soon I'll have a new trailer uploaded, and hopefully a completed feature in a couple of weeks.

BACK IT UP...:o

How many years did you age in the process?
I can't BEGIN to tell you.
Needless to say, the whole situation reminded me how important it is to back up. I'll never be that lazy again (famous last words). I'm old enough to know better. :o

How are you backing it up? With another external hard drive??

Yes, a different brand. AND all the files are on DVDs. I had all the video files on DVDs before but we'd done a lot of ADR work and Sound FX that hadn't made it there yet. Not to mention CC, titles and video fx. EVERYTHING is now on DVDs, including a copy of the FCP edit.
