Vegas + DVD only for Dolby Digital Encoding?

I am likely going to purchase Edius Broadcast for video editing with an HVX-200. However, I am interested in creating Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound for use on DVDs. It would seem that the Vegas + DVD suite will allow me to do this. Since this suite is considerably cheaper that products like those from Surcode (that have no video editing abilities), is there any reason why I shouldn't purchase Vegas + DVD for the sole purpose of making Dolby Digital Ac3 streams?

Having two editors could come in handy from time to time, so it seems like an all-around good idea. Or is it too good to be true? Can anyone comment on the functionality of the Dolby Digital mixing and encoding in Vegas + DVD versus competing products?

It's as slick and easy as you could possibly want. It's done with keyframing and a very intuitive graphic interface.

It's another thing Vegas NAILED long before anyone else. In fact, most editors can't do it at all yet.

I'll cast my vote with David. The 5.1 capabilities of Vegas are incredible. Very easy to use and great quality on the output. I'd definitely recommend it.

I'll throw my hat in here. I'm from the pro tools set and have never edited video before V6 and even I can edit sound in 5.1 here. It's that easy.

I do agree on that subject...

5.1 Sound on Vegas is really easy to create... I had never done it before and I got it in one day after purchasing Vegas 6.

Go for it..
