There's a frame from a DVD that I want to pull off as a still.

I've seen others do this...but can't figure it out.

Please, post a how-to if you know how.

I'm on a mac using DVD player or VLC.

Thanks guys.

You can do it with PowerDVD but I can only figure out how to make the grabs my background.

I can't figure out how to save them.

exit full screen mode in your DVD player, open Terminal (Applications>Utilities) and type:

screencapture -iW ~/Desktop/screen.jpg (where "screen" is the desired grab name)

Then select the window you want to capture, in your case - DVD player. There, the grab is saved on Desktop.

Thanks guys.

Tried it but the file won't seem to work. It make a file but when I open it- or try to - is says that the file is too short or corrupted.

Why me?

Tried what? If you mean my solution and the file won't open in Photoshop, then it's fine. Open it with Preview and then save as some other format, if you want.

XI70e3,

Yeah, I tried your solution. All seemed to be fine except the file won't open in preview, Photoshop or QT.

Not sure why...

Might it have something to do with piracy issues on a DVD?

I dunno.

No problem.
I wound up using that program bc the Mac srcreen caps were disabled when the DVD player was active (at least using the shortcuts). But xl70e3's solution might work as well and will probbly give you a 'cleaner' image if it does (in terms of making sure you're getting the screen edge to edge.

Glad it worked out for you though.

Weird. I can capture DVD player window this way just fine and the files open up in Preview. But I'm glad you got it worked out.

Yeah, the capture me is kind of a quick-fix. But it does the trick.

I'm not sure why I can't get xl70e3's to work on my system....

glad I learned it as another option though.

Thanks again guys!
