Most disturbing movies you've seen?

Pretty much anything Lynch made has scarred me for life. Esspeically Eraserhead. No offense crayola. :)

I have to agree with Cannibal Holocaust as the most disturbing film I've ever seen --

I actually broke up with a girlfriend in college back in the early 90's because she was too interested in it ...

from IMDB:

"This movie has gained the title of the most notorious movie of all-time, holding the world record for the movie banned in the most countries (in almost 60 countries)."

It sort of depends...
When I was 5, things freaked me out more than they do now. I had nighmares from the whole Outer Limits series. Myself, as well as "We" as a whole, or society are getting more used to more gorey, bloody, viseral, high-paced, action-packed, louder, creepier, faster-cut scenes.

"The Exocist"
creeped me out when it first came out. I still get chills from that. It didn't help that I saw an interview with a person who knew the real story behind the movie.

"The Reanimator"
scene where the dead persons entrails whip out of her body and grab that guy. I jumped. Also- scene where the dead Dr.'s body put his severed head in between the legs of the tied up heroine. Aaaaahg.

There's more...

The film that had the most disturbing effect on me was the first 20 min. of Saving Private Ryan. Whoa, I was not ready for that. It really stuck with me for a long time after leaving the theater. I had an isle seat and about 10 people got up and left during the scene.

On a different level of disturbing. I would say the white face of the devil showing up in the dark kitchen in the exorcist. I'm getting goose bumps just thinking about it.

mine have already been mentioned but to me the "Clockwork Orange" scene where he has to watch that video with his eyes pryed open. Malcom McDowell is still afraid of eye drops. "Deliverance" is another... "Saw" was pretty disturning (overall though I hated that movie) and like callaghan said the land lady "Kingpin" *shivers*

you know Luke, i talked to some of the rangers, my father included. they were cringing at some of the artillery fired upon them. there hands were sweaty they had said, very real. i wonder if it was some guys who served in wartime that had walked out, but i doubt it

My girl friend can watch disturbing movies with me but cannible holocaust was one she couldnt finish with me. Mostly because we knew already that all the animals killed in the movie were alive and real.

I don't know if anyone had mentioned this one already but...The only really disturbing movie I have ever seen is Gaspar Noe's "Irreversable" I'm pretty sure (at least to me) "Irreversable" trumps any film mentioned prior.

Se7en creeped me out when I first saw it. Now it's one of my favorite films.

I agree with Requiem, it'll always be with me. Of course, that too is one of my favorite films now. If it can evoke that much of an emotional responce, it's worth it's weight in gold. (Of course, DVD's don't weigh much... but you get my drift.)

How about Willam Dafoe as Nosferatu.

According to ole' Roger Ebert the most disturbing terrible movie ever is 'Chaos'. He gave it zero stars: Heres the review: Chaos...

I havnt seen it....and i dont think i want to. Anyone here seen it?

as for a movie that disturbed me....The Fly

My dad was creeped out when he caught me trying on my mother's braw the day before my birthday.

Man...sweet 16 was supposed to be something special.

The Shining is the only one that continues to get me... visuals, music, sound effects EEAAHHH! I think I was ruined for all other horror movies by seeing too many of them.

The more realistic stuff is often more creepy and sticks with you:

Last House on the Left
I Spit on Your Grave
Henry, Portrait...
Bloodsucking Freaks (well, not that realistic)
Zero Day
Kids
and several Italian ones from the 70's I forgot the names of...
