Hi everyone,
so about a week ago I ordered a DVX-100a from an online dealer called Digital Liquidators. I paid $2465 for what I thought was the standard camera.
Today I got the cam in the mail and I opened it up. Everything is in japanese! is this normal? this is my first dvx, so i don't know if they all look like this, or if i got dooped.
does anyone recognize this packaging, or know anything about a japanese model?
please please advise me!
thanks!

here are pics of the packaging...

You paid for a grey market camera,it looks like. The camera will probably work fine, although I don't know if the menues are in japanese or not, but you will not be able to use the warrante. but you saved about $800 so I guess you don't need a warrante right?

I live in Japan and if this a Japanese model the menu is in English and the only difference is the inclusion of 0 and 7.5 ire instead of just the US standard. You may very well have a problem with the warranty!

before i bought at evs, i called j&r and they said "yeah we're authorized, if we sell it, we are authorized for it"... i think the only 'sure fire' way is to plug the zip code into the panasonic dealer locator. just for peace of mind.

t

That's what I did -- I put them in the Panasonic authorized-seller search tool, and it came up with a "nope". J&R may be authorized for some lines of Panasonic product, but not for the DVX.

www.beachcamera.com got my camera to me quick, cheap, in full warranty, with rebates which i already verified, and will give you free shipping on anything else you order for the next 3 months. it was 3,125 with a 300 rebate you can fill out online, and the instruction DVD, book, the 10 free dv tapes, and free extra battery, over 1,300 dollars worth of free stuff and rebates, and it is in warranty.... you got screwed in price in total as well as warranty. I think beach camera is the cheapest online full us warranty licensed dealer available. Tell me if I'm wrong, somehow we must be able to find the once and for all cheapest licensed dealer of dvx100a.

Beach isn't authorized. So you got lucky. They may have had stock of actual authorized product that they bought from an authorized dealer, but Beach Camera is not an authorized Panasonic dealer.
