Andromeda Video Clip Posted of Uncomp. DVX Footage

[RANT MODE = 1]

That footage looks okay. But those guys at Reel-Stream are absolutely CLUELESS in how to market their stuff.

Rotten web site. Terrible choices of still shots, idiotic choice for the first actual footage (it's 720x480, letterboxed, shaky, and a shot of ducks! I can take footage that looks better with my stock DVX100) And they've been told HOW MANY TIMES to compare their 4:4:4 output to ACTUAL Mini-DV footage, not the blown-out crap they keep showing (I understand the technical reasons given, but c'mon... Re-expose for DV for 1 sec and grab a frame - how freaking hard is that?)

Engineers they may be, but if it's ever to take off, somebody with some marketing knowledge needs to slap these guys and tell them what to do. Despite all the hype, inuendo, and community excitement surrounding this "system," I can't shake the feeling that the whole thing is bullsh*t. If it isn't, then it's just criminal how badly they have mis-managed Andromeda to this date.

Looks good, but not stunning. If someone told me it was normal dvx footage (with chroma blur or something maybe) I wouldn't be surprised. The low noise is impressive, and because the realstream has worse low light capabilities (since they cancel out panasonic's automatic gain) it should have less noise.

I agree, nice footage, but terribly presented.

They should just buy a 700 dollar rockwell 1080p CMOS and make their own camera.

I have to agree a bit with wjm on his rant.
I just spent 6 days on a 28k dialup downloading that 300meg. clip ..
Not really, I'm on a cable modem and it only took a couple minutes, but the clip doesn't look very spectacular to me considering what it's supposed to be capable of.
Maybe they should let Barry G. shoot some stuff for them and get a new marketing guy for the website.

Key samples..

Key samples..

I'd personally like to see some greenscreen key samples. DV is notorious for difficulty pulling good original chroma key footage because of what compression does around the edges of the foreground subject. In theory uncompressed footage should pull a much better key.

And I mean a sample before the composite is made. The original key footage.

Despite its shakiness, it looks good!

I've yet to meet with Juan, but soon, I will!

hopefully, I can get to the green screen studio on campus with him and we'll do some test runs.
