Nnovia QuickCapture

Re: Nnovia QuickCapture

Well first off, my involvement here should not be considered promotional as that runs counter to the purpose and use of this board.

Second, since we do not sell directly to the end-user I would not be the one to ask. But I will make the suggestion to one of our Distributors if there is sufficient interest and the owners of this forum endorse that notion.

Really it's out of my hands...

Re: Nnovia QuickCapture

Just as a bit of history for you guys, nNovia has been developing this product since January, 2000 after leaving Quantum. When at Quantum the principles of nNovia comprised the engineering development group that worked on both TiVo and Replay TV.

So for the record we have been doing this longer than anybody and know most all of the pitfalls of the 1394 AV/C command language. Having developed the first 1394 HDD sure helps when you are trying to engineer products that have HDD's in them!

As I said, we do things quite differently than most folks.

Re: Nnovia QuickCapture

bruce,

is this the same product as promax's directdrive w/ their name stamped on it(oem)?

Re: Nnovia QuickCapture

ProMax is in fact an early private label of ours, but the products are different today. Laird’s is as well. We have introduced different feature sets such as Slow Motion (yep, real-time effects) and RS-232 via QuickCapture. So really, private labels do not always simply mean "repackaged".

Our Firmware engineers are really bright guys and have the unnerving habit of coming up with new features faster than I can market them! Many times these features never make it into private labels products. That's true of all OEM's for the most part.

Re: Nnovia QuickCapture

I did a bunch of shooting on Sunday with QuickCapture and it was very easy to use. I used my tripod for all shooting and simply tied off the QuickCapture around my sticks.

I was able to preview the video from the QuickCapture through my DVX in VCR mode. Very cool!

I took my QuickCapture home, plugged in via firewire, then drag & dropped the files into my PC. All clips retained the quality and stats from their scene file settings. I did not even record tape, or even have one in the DVX! (Although it works just as well and may be a little easier since you can use the record button to start / stop QuickCapture recording)

No dropped frames or any other issues to report. :D

If anyone is curious about anything specific with QuickCapture, or wants me to test functionality, I'll do my best to perform the test and report my findings.

Re: Nnovia QuickCapture

So pulldown concept still applies to even the harddrive capture? As i recall correctly, saw a thread of uncompressed capture somewhere on dvinfo i think, kind of expected same for this. Also to clarify, when files are stored are they in an uncompressed rgb format? I doubt i will be cashing out for a low end capture cam, this is definitely a better alternative!

Re: Nnovia QuickCapture

No, the files are captured in compressed, raw .DV format and converted on-the-fly on output to either .MOV or one of several .AVI formats. There is no need for further rendering. This process is true whether you capture from a DV source or an analog source depending upon which model of QuickCapture you use.

Re: Nnovia QuickCapture

Actually Bena, it is an external battery and will run continously for up to eight hours. QuickCapture comes with a belt pack made for us by Targus that houses the battery separately.

Re: Nnovia QuickCapture

Bruce,
Thanks for jumping on and answering questions! What is the difference of the A2D, is it just the playback capability?

Thanks,
Gopher

Re: Nnovia QuickCapture

The A2D version includes analog inputs (A2D = "Analog To Digital"). You can use it to record clips from an analog video source as well as from a firewire source. The non-A2D QuickCapture works as a firewire recorder, the A2D version adds analog capture capability.

Both systems can play back clips. The A2D can play them back to a firewire or analog device, the non-A2D can play them back to a firewire device.

Re: Nnovia QuickCapture

Can the A2D be *Daisy chained* to a monitor? In other words connect the camera to the A2D and the A2D to an external monitor?

thanks Again!!!
Gopher
