I'm looking for flexibility when it comes to jib cranes. I'm torn between these three cranes: the EZFX Jib , the CobraCrane l +, and Camcrane 200. Please tell me your experiences on any of these cranes. Thanks
I own an EZ FX jib with a Varizoom remote-controlled head and it is an awesome combination.
Besides being extremely portable and quick to set up, it is capable of some extremely fluid and sophisticated moves.
Personally, I would stay away from jibs that mount to your tripod's head.
Most people who buy those are on a budget and don't have a tripod head that is truly rated for all the weight associated with flying a camera on the end of a jib.
i have the cobracrane+ w/ the zoe dvx(i rarely use the zoom though since my shots are 99% at the widest setting when on the crane) attached to a bogen 3046 tripod w/3066 head...can boom up to 14', boom/pan the whole crane, tilt, dutch angle, add a bogen head to the front of the crane and borrow jarred for a day and you can do pans from the front. you can break down the crane in half for portability. great money for the beautiful smooth fluid shots this thing can create w/ the right head(at least a 503, 516 would be better) as terry mentions. i will do some test shots w/ the crane, steadytracker, and dolly sometime next month as soon as i finish up on a couple of projects. i give the crane 2 booms up. 8)
Or call (407) 877-2335 and ask them to send you a DEMO CD ROM. I think you will be impressed. I know I was and plan to get a crane later on this summer.
Thank you for the kind words on our CobraCrane product, we would love to see some of the footage you have shot and maybe with your permisson, put it on our web-site.
If anyone else has questions and or concerns please do not hesitate to call or email me.

If I'm not mistaken, you have over $4,200 in that combo, assuming you didn't get the extension (which is more). This gets real close to the price of some of the Jimmy Jibs (http://www.jimmyjib.com). Their cable jib starts at $2775, and the Lite is $6250.00 for an 18 foot model with full motorized controls. The Lite can be set up as a 6 ft, 12 ft, or 18 ft configuration, and will support both small and large cameras.
Something to consider, especially since the cable jib can be upgraded to the Lite later...

The EZ FX jib also offers upgrade paths via extensions. I own the 6 foot extension.
I had a Triangle for some time and always set it up myself. The Triangle is too big for a DVX-100. The Lite is smaller, easier to set up and fits into smaller number of cases. it's capable of fitting small and large cases.
I had an EZ-FX jib real early on. I was also instrumental in getting the Junior model to market (it was designed for me).
This Advanta-Jib looks nice... I just need to see how the controls work and what it costs...

Ouch... looks good, but the price is almost twice that of the Jimmy Jib Lite cable model! At around $3,000, that Advanta-Jib would be impressive.
So what do you guys think of the Camcrane 200 by Glidecam? I am thinking of buying it from Rush..the arm is only $462.95??? Should I go for it. I am thinking of the Bogen 3061 Heavy Duty tripod to go along with it...suggestions?
