New Redrock Encore still Vignettes like a Mofo

SO! I love the follow-focus and everything else, but unfortunately at least with the Sony EX3, the Encore still has horrible vignetting problems in all 4 corners. Have followed all instructions for setup with this series of camera, but its still horribly noticeable. I almost don't believe it's the actual Encore but just the Micro Encore. I must say though it does look good otherwise....unfortunately will have to bring it back unless the problem can get resolved stat! :(

This does not surprise me... Redrock also denied the Vignetting of the first M2, which was downright ridiculous.

Hi Alex,

What's the zoom/focus settings you're getting? Vignetting from the corners implies a porthole vignette, which is usually caused by the lens or not zooming in far enough. I've personally done two full EX3 setups and not experienced any vignetting.

If you want, feel free to post examples to our support forums or send them to support@redrockmicro.com.

Cheers!

I just recieved my redrock encore and experience heavy vignetting. After manipulating a few different things with the camera I realized that I was not properly lighting my subjects. I have an array of lens and am using a 15 year old 50mm Nikon 1.8 that's caputures beautiful images with no vignetting at a focus of 87 HMC 150. I'd be willing to bed that you're not properly lighting your subjects

I finally got around to shooting a focus chart (or three) with the M2e. This is EX1 + M2e + Micro-Xe. Cam at default settings. Picture profile off. ND off. EX1 at f5.6. Canon FD 85mm at f5.6. 1080p.

The chart on the left is a freebie chart from Fujinon. The charts on the right are ones I downloaded and printed with a laser printer.

Sorry for the huge image size but I wanted to post at 100% with no mods. This was exported as a still from FCP. Converted to jpeg in Photoshop to reduce file size.

Cool, i found this thread as well. Are you experiencing any CA or E2E issues or any with certain lenses.
Is that Red fringing on the left chart , i have found CA on every adaptor or lens i have used when shooting extreme bright solid lines on a flat plane. This looks very good!

i don't see the red fringe you're talking about but i have seen CA under some conditions. mostly when bright light meets high contrast. doesn't bother me to be honest. how is the CA on the G35? i would guess that it is less evident as there is less glass involved. adding a flip module adds CA i think.

Absolutely, spot on with your thoughts , No flip, alot less to worry about , except standing on your head to see the image the right way up. ( lol ) I have shot a few HD charts with several different lens on the G35 and was very pleased, but it is not perfect , but neither am i as a shooter. If you adjust the plane slightly and shoot on a 2-3 degree angle offset, CA is reduced greatly! That goes for all adapters i have used. Even PS Teknik and MovieTube

On the G35, CA is barely visible on the far edges, outside tv safe area on heavily backlit or extreme bright shots. It is also lens dependent. Wide angles suffers most! But you really have to look for it.

I agree with you mate, I get used to CA, CA is almost every where if you start looking for it, it's just because we are told technically this is a flaw when actually it is present in almost 90% of Nikon or Zeiss lenses even when on a SLR., especially when the prism is exposed to the same extreme back lit scenario .

If the audience is looking at CA, then we are not shooting anything of any worth!
Cheers
