Keying in HD, then downconverting to SD

So I've shot greenscreen footage in HD 1080 30p with my Cannon xh-a1....
I need to key the footage (in after effects), then downconvert to Standard Def....

--I'm assuming it's best to Key in HD, and then downconvert right?

--what's the best way to downconvert? -- I usually bring HD footage into Mpeg Streamclip, and then export to 720X480...is compressor better?

i would image compressor yielding better results than Mpeg Streamclip.

Key> downconvert is how i would do it, but out of curiosity you may want
to do a 10 second test SD key and view on a NTSC monitor.
