Bulge to fix HVX at full wide?

I am trying to render our of AE for the first time right now. I found the Bulge FX under Distort and set the oval so that its edges touched the the edges of the 16:9 frame, then I set the height to -0.15

does that sound right?

a more accurate way to do it is to shoot a grid at wide. apply optics compensation to straighten the grid and then save that preset. then apply it to all of your wide shots.

It doesnt look like your shot needs fixing?
You can look at something way to long and obsess over small things that no one can see in the few seconds its on screen, or just dont shoot wide?

What he said.

Optics compensation will give the best and most accurate results, though at the expense of a render hit. The Bulge effect will also work, the example you have above looks pretty damn good. I had to put each frame on a seperate layer in Photoshop to see the difference.

Try Optics Comp, and see what you think of that. You should maintain crisper footage, less stretched looking, thank with Bulge, but with very similar results.

Matt, glad to see that you didn't mind the fix. I literally just rendered that as my first AE render ever (as far as I can remember) and I didn't want to play with it too much. The same shot pushes into a 2/1 slipt with the guy, so I get the lens in Michelle's forehead (blond on the left). It is then that it looks noticeably bad and the only reason I did this at all. A little sharpening does the trick afterward. That was shot at 720p btw, I am only rendering a 640 x 360 out of it, so there is a bit of resolution that I never got out of the camera.

What pisses me off is that I think I used a 1/50th or 1/48th shutter cause I got lots of motin blur... the Gaffer that was helping me out might have not wanted to burn through gels and use his HMIs but one or two 1.2s on the ceiling full CTO would have worked better than blasting some of the tungstens to the celiling. Looks nice for FREE and a single day. Especially when you take into account that I shot it! rofl...

must sleep...

Ok, well I actually did it... but not gonna try to check other lengths. And it may not be the most accurate job but good enough for me for now.
