What is your 7 Wonders of the Fictional World?

What would be your 7 wonders of the fictional world?

Here is something I wrote up because I was sick of the 7 wonders of the ancient world being almost all unproven and mythological in nature. If 6 out of 7 can be relatively unproved, so can mine!

The following is my list:

=============================================

I decided that since 6 of the 7 original wonders of the world don't exist, nor have much proof of existence, I would make my list fictional as well. In fairness to the pyramids which has definitive proof it exists as it continues to stand to this day.... I'll let them be my honorary 8th wonder.

8. Pyramids of Egypt: Although designed and mostly built by alien technology, the human race's slave labor contribution has earned the pyramids a right to our Wonders of the World list... and because it still exists today.

7. Minas Tirith: Truly the most badass city in the Lord of the Rings Universe. I applaud the space saving design of the city, and if I had to choose one city to run off the tallest building while on fire, it would be this.

6. The Truman Show Dome: Yes, somehow the best god-damn tv show pitch was given; hence some crazy studio commenced the building of a multi-billion or even trillion dollar 'dome' which would engulf an entire small town and employ about a quarter of all LA actors. If you remember the movie, I believe the dome was built behind the Hollywood sign in the Hollywood Hills..... probably not the best terrain (or cheapest) to build a mini city dome world....

5. Halo: I'm still not sure what the real origin story is. All I know is that some peoples built an atmospheric world in the shape of a giant ring. If the defense system is activated, the Halo somehow pulses out a death ray in all directions which exterminates life for quite a long distance. Why not?

4. Rapture City: If the Blade Runner Los Angeles of 2030 was mixed with Art Deco Hollywood of 1930, then flooded with water.... you would have the city in which video game Bio-Shock takes place. Truly one of the most beautiful of all the water worlds. (Gungan City can suck it.)

3. Hogwarts: The mysterious labyrinth of a castle. As big as it looks from the outside, it's about 10x as big on the inside. Nobody knows all the secrets to the castle. Seems like a new epic section of the castle is discovered in every book. Just how big IS Hogwarts? I doubt we will ever know.

2. Cloud City: Cloud ****in' city.... enough said.

1. The Emerald City: Yes, an unimaginably tall city... built for midgets... out of a precious stone which is considerably weak in comparison to other gem stones. It is the #1 wonder of the fictitious world. If only we could look around the Emerald City a bit more.

There were many considerations and cuts on the list. Sorry to those who did not make it. Runners up included: The alien machine from Contact, Unbuilt OCP Delta City (thanks Robo), The Matrix (Built by robots and mainly software based), the Death Star I & II (Both sucked ass), Superman's Fortress of Solitude, Lost Boys Tree Fort, Ewok tree fort (how the **** they built that I have no idea), Super Star Destroyer, Beasts Castle (built perfectly around an island of cliffs), Little Mermaid City, Black Mesa Research Facility, Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, etc.

I always wanted to have a crib where the Hobbits live. It looks peaceful and has no gang bangers.

The Citizen Kane of computer games.

Since you mentioned Superman's fortress of solitude... google "giant crystal cave"... amazingly enough one of your fictitious wonders is a real life wonder.

About the rest? Kudos... this is a beautiful thread. If there's a forum of science fiction and illustrations like this... where people talk about the wonder and fantasy of it all... I could be pulled away from this place... except that once people get a little "too into it"... they take on a personality that I struggle to deal with.

If you can admire and "get" that sort of fiction... and yet stay grounded and cool... then you'd be my first pick for "desert island buddy"... (unless a hot chick is also in the running).

Awesome thread idea though dude... very refreshing.

I would have to say Jurassic Park. Ever since I was a kid watching the Flintstones, I have always wanted a plate of Bronto ribs so big, they flip the damn car over.

JP is a great idea. I considered it for good while! When those giant doors open up with the torches, I get goosebumps everytime! Other themeparks I was considering was Duff Gardens and the Duff Beer-amid... and West World/Gangster World!

Awesome idea and a fun thread.

Here are mine below.

7) Tower of Barad-dur from THE LORD OF THE RINGS
Mordor.jpg

This thing is just scary and awe-inspiring, especially to a little ol' Hobbit.

6) The Tyrell Building from BLADE RUNNER

This massive techno-cathedral where Tyrell, god of Replicants lives just looks so darn beautiful in the setting sun of smog choked Los Angeles circa 2019.

5) The Weyland Yutani atmosphere processor from ALIENS

Ah, the massive industrial temple of a terra forming plant that Burke was so protective of. While it may be just a run of the mill factory to the colonists of LV-426, to me anything that can alter the atmosphere of an entire world and then go into thermonuclear meltdown makes our present day technology seem like child's play.

4) Skull Island from KING KONG

With it's giant bugs and dinosaurs, this island that was lost in the sea of time is an amazing place to see onscreen, yet one that I wouldn't want to actually visit for fear of being eaten in a most unpleasant way.

3) Borg Cube from STAR TREK: TNG
350px-Borg_cube.jpg

Anything that makes the Enterprise look like a little toy tugboat that we all remember playing with in the bathtub years ago when we were wee little lads, gets on the list.

2) The Citadel from the video game MASS EFFECT
MassEffect_2008-08-12_11-12-14-85.png

A massive space station / city that is well, just massive. Hey, the game is called Mass Effect for cripes sake.

1) Ringworld from Larry Niven's novel of the same name
ringworld.jpg

Since the HALO was mentioned, how about some love for the even larger ring-shaped construct that arguably inspired it. And let's rejoice that it wasn't named Donutworld.
