Someone help me get rid of the blue screen!

So a recently I installed a new video card (nVidia GeForce 8500GT) I installed the drivers, but the first time I rebooted I got a Windows stop error. (See below) This has continued since then every time I restart my comp, sometimes I have to reboot a few times to actually get XP loaded. It usually happens when it gets to the log in screen, right before loading user settings.

Then today I am working on a project in AE, and Windows crashes with the same Stop error screen. First time it has ever happened while I was actually using the computer.

If anyone can help me narrow down the cause of this I would be incredibly grateful.

System specs:
HP Pavilion m1050y
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Intel Pentium 4 3.20GHz Dual Core
2GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 8500GT

Here is the error I'm getting:

...Thinking maybe the card was not installed properly, I took it out and reinstalled it several times to make certain it was installed. No problem there. I haven't messed with the BIOS yet because I'm not comfortable messing with that stuff on my own.

So... I found some documentation that said the version of Logitech driver I was using for my mouse wasn't compatible with XP and could be causing the error, as well I updated my Nvidia driver to be safe, and I rebooted with the side panel off for max ventilation and this time... no error.

We'll see if it lasts.

This seems to be turning into a downward spiral.

Yesterday XP prompted me to install SP3, so I did, after it installed I shut down for the night, this morning I start up and as it is booting (on a new XP splash screen for some reason, maybe finishing the install for SP3) the blue screen comes up. GREAT. I restart. It happens again. And again, and then one more time. Finally, I get it running.

First thing that loads is a command prompt saying

error: the parameter is incorrect

error: the parameter is incorrect

error: the parameter is incorrect

error: the parameter is incorrect

WTF!?

Then, a nice little usb error pops up for my external drive (with all my photos and video on it) saying: "the usb device attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it"

I checked the "unknown device" in Device Manager and it says there is no driver installed...Even though it is a plug-n-play device, doesn't require a driver.

I feel like crying.

my computer started going downhill shortly after installing service pack 3 also. fortunately i have more than one hard drive and installed windows on the backup. i haven't had any problems since. i can still access my files from the original hard drive, it's just now the slave instead of the master. i'm going to reformat it again once i get around to moving my files over.

So should I go back to SP2?

you could try it, but i have a bad feeling something is already corrupted and it won't do much good. do you have a recovery disk for your computer? if you have one, you could save the files you need on a usb drive and use the recovery disk to start over.

EDIT: I've been uninstalling the external drive from device manager, and reinstalling it, hoping Windows will grab it and reinstall, but it wasn't working, I tried just pulling the power cable from the back (it wasn't shutting off from the button in the front, and now it is working! It came up, autoplayed the contents, and is now working fine. I'm still going to back everything up to DVD-R's to be safe. :)
